Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 28, 2007 8:06 am Had our soil tests done last week, the verbal report is most of the block is an M or an S slab, with one area which is a P. We have a 3m high hill in the middle of our block, and we're currently hoping to work with a builder who can utilise the hill to build us a split-level home, rather than the project builders who just want to bulldoze it and build their standard designs.
I also had a builder on site from a small building company - my mate subbies for him as a plasterer and also had his house built by them and recommends them. The builder is happy to work on a split-level custom design. So we're moving forward. Would love some advice and suggestions from anyone who has built a split-level home. Developer approval obtained, engineering complete, getting quotes Re: Soil tests done - split level house? 2Oct 28, 2007 9:57 am My block has around an 8 metre slope front to back - the house has two levels, with a 1 metre drop to the lower level which then extends out and ends up 2 metres above the ground out the back as a suspended verandah.
Upper section is bedrooms and bathroom, and lower section is living, kitchen and then goes outdoors to the verandah, and I highly recomend it, as it gives the house a seperated feel, and I can also generate and capture breees due to the elavation and fall in the block and the way the cool night air moves in summer. From what I have read a pole house design might be cost effective to build where you are and with a good eco design it can be very cost effective long term.
