Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 19, 2010 12:17 pm I should preface this by saying that I do intend to speak with the CLO, but I would be interested in some feedback before I do. I have just seen the house (PCI due in about two weeks) and all the living area tiles have been done, but they are laid just straight. I guess that is the laziest way they do them. I would have liked them to be done diagonally and I did say this earlier to to CLO. I guess having them straight would save on them cutting the tiles more. They are 36mm x 36 (I think). Is the building company just being lazy? If you have had a meeting, is it only by chance that you came across the tiler at the site or was a meeting specifically organised? Comments please? We also met with our tiler when it came time to lay them just to clarify everything. Is there anything in your paperwork from your tile selection appointment to reflect your instructions? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Tiler meeting...have you had one?? 3Jul 19, 2010 2:18 pm We had a meeting with our tiler prior to them laying tiles, just to confirm that they were tiling the correct area's, not sure what else as I was on a holiday and my partner was the one that actually met with them. Re: Tiler meeting...have you had one?? 4Jul 19, 2010 3:07 pm When we queried laying tiles on a 45 degree angle, we were told it would cost more due to having to make more cuts. So laying them straight I imagine is the standard way of doing things and only if it's in your signed quote / PCV could you hold them accountable I'd imagine. Have a look over your paperwork. This was organised by the S.S. for us. During the meeting we then organised direct with the tiler for a couple of changes to our tiling ( one item was to have diagonal tiles in shower) and after pci we paid him directly for that work. He actually brought up the changes when we met with him but it was something I wanted to ask him about anyway. But for a large area I imagine the builder would expect it in writing as it would be a significantly longer job due to the time involved with all the cutting. So something done at the first meeting when you pick tiles etc. That is a really good attitude Akin to you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
