Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 17, 2010 9:12 pm Good evening to all you new Homebuilders We have signed an initial PPA structural agreement with Goodlife Homes and have a question regarding our garage - specifically what exactly is considered a cavity? We wanted to push back the garage by approx. half a metre so that we could create an opening/gap of 1 metre as an outdoor side access to the garage. We were told we had to pay an additional $1700 to make the garage double-brick because it would now be considered a cavity structure. We discovered today that our next door neighbour has a single-brick garage with external access, with six supporting columns that are double-brick. We have sent the photos to our builder and await response. Can't add any pics as we can't attach any files. If you have any feedback, it would be much appreciated. Thanks and have a great weekend. Re: Building in Perth, Western Australia- rear garage commen 2Jul 17, 2010 9:33 pm Hi there Mrs Speedie, Maybe if you post your plan (even just of the garage part) we could get a better idea of exactly what you mean & could offer you some suggestions, not sure about others but i'm having trouble visualising it. Our garage is all single brick except about 1.5m on entrance wall & we have store attached with manual roller to rear yard. Even if we had a door there instead it would have still been single brick wall. We do have brick columns thru out garage as well. Not sure if that's helped you any??? We got a price but never went ahead with it as we just couldnt afford everything but I know it was just a door frame with an external weather proof door. I think we were quoted aroun $700 but dont quote me on that but nothing was ever mentioned about the double bricks being mentioned. I just checked on a friend of mines plans and they def dont have a double brick garage and have put a door fro the garage leading to the backyard.
