Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Lis’ Santorini – DAH - I didn't order spotted roof tile 101Nov 03, 2010 1:18 pm Love your floorplan Lis, esp the workshop area. I've not seen one of those attached to a garage before, such a great idea! Really shocking about the roof tiles and I really hope DAH's solution is to replace them all. Re: Lis’ Santorini – DAH - Getting plastered :) 102Nov 03, 2010 11:37 pm Hi P1T, yeah this roof tile issue is becoming more of a regular problem I see. I have faith that DAH will do the right thing my us , but it is disappointing that Bristile has such a ** product going round at the moment Thanks snowyowl Hubby was insistent that he has a decent workshop area as we don't want to take up too much back/sideyard space with a shed. The standard workshop in DAH designs is only 2x4m but we made our a little bigger, basically the size of a single garage because we had the extra width on the block. Well, as the thread title states, our plaster float is now on but sorry no pics. Forgot to charge the camera battery before heading to the house *doh* so will have to wait till the weekend. What's happening on your site? My ceiling guys are due to start work today. They were due to start last Thursday but one the guys' wife had a baby late last week and they've been delayed. Front render could not be finished as they have to change the combined gas/electrical meters box so we are still waiting for the brickies to come back. I have a few bricks in the garage which need to be replaced as one of the roof beams was forced against the brick which cracked and pushed out a few of them up the top and the brickies are still to brick the interior of my fireplace cavity. It might be worth checking that all your ppoints are accounted as our plastering guys covered two of them - one in the ensuite above the vanity and one in the living room. It's very easy not to notice. The roof plumber did install the front downpipes minus the one on the garage wall and fixed/finished the portico gutter as it wasn't properly joined at the corners. We noticed some cracks appearing in the render where the gutters are joining the portico, and the flashing on the right side of the portico is kinked and not encased properly in the render... I had the Bristile rep last week at my place to discuss problems with the warped/chipped tiles and he confirmed that he will instruct the guys to replace all chipped/warped tiles next to the ridges during the cementing and they will have a final check to replace the rest of the damaged tiles before handover. I did try to upload some pics last night but photobucket was playing funny-buggers so will try again tonight. Nothing much has happened since I was last at the house mid last week. Internal grey render has been done, but they haven't rendered the front yet. Bagheera It might be worth checking that all your ppoints are accounted as our plastering guys covered two of them - one in the ensuite above the vanity and one in the living room. It's very easy not to notice. I did notice that one of the powerpoints in the home theatre had been rendered over and informed CLO, but was told that this is quite common and won't be a problem. I will be keeping an eye on it though If I get time I'll do a driveby after work today and hopefully put up some pics tonight. Re: Lis’ Santorini – DAH - Getting plastered :) 106Nov 09, 2010 11:57 am Sorry to be a pester but we are pretty much at the same stage and need sombody to talk same "language" Re ppoints covered by render - I know it's not a problem as they can easily break the render and expose the ppoint - what I have a problem with is that she emailed me to say that it will be done later down the track. That's a no no - I'm not in the mood to have the white plaster put on and then have the sparkies smash the walls around trying to find out where the ppoint was in the first place. Why can't they do everything right in the first place? I hate when things get pushed aside only to delay things later down the track. If they smash the wall in the wrong location we will have to wait for the plasterers to come back and fix it = more delays etc etc etc... Did I tell you that the sparkies missed a conduit at the entry for my bell/video intercorm door unit - I informed the CLO and it took them almost 2 weeks to understand that it is part of the electrical plan and nothing to do with the security guys. By that time the front render was done so now I have a nicely cut render and a box... obviously the render will have to be patched which if not done right it will be visible. Don't know how the render guys will react to it... I'll wait for SS to come back and discuss it with him. They could at least have a marking to say where it was that they covered. Will be emailing CLO. Do you guys have small folded wood planks that sits under the door frames of your bath, toilet, laundry to prop it up at the right height during bricking? Re: Lis’ Santorini – DAH - Getting plastered :) 108Nov 09, 2010 12:56 pm nope - I don't remember seeing any wood bits - I might have a look tonight but I thought that the bathrooms/toilets doors are shorter rather than the frames being higher - my door frames have a metal strip at the bottom - not sure what's the purpose - maybe something to do to keep them square or something. Re: Lis’ Santorini – DAH - Getting plastered :) 110Nov 09, 2010 9:45 pm Did a quick driveby after work today to see that they have started on the ceilings So far only the front part of the house and living areas have been done, and the 'frame' for the bulkhead over the kitchen bench has been put up. Don't know how the render guys will react to it... I know it's sooooo frustrating to see mistakes (regardless of whether they are easy to fix later) that could have easily been avoided in the first place, and not potentially causing further issues/delays later down the track. I guess all we can do is be observant and keep on top of our builds - even if others are not so observant... I do remember you mentioning somewhere that you were missing one of your conduits and so I rushed off to check mine - all present and accounted for duke I just found out a brick wall has covered our conduit that leads to the kitchen island. Do you guys have small folded wood planks that sits under the door frames of your bath, toilet, laundry to prop it up at the right height during bricking? Duke, had a look when I was there today and didn't see any wood planks under the door frames - all the same level from hallway through to bath/toilet/laundry. Not sure why yours would have them Also another bit of progress (on my behalf) is that on Saturday I put down my deposit on flooring. Ended up going with Carpet Choice, Plush Nylon Stainmaster Elegant Flair 'Amazon' for bedrooms and 'Quartz' for home theatre, and Armstrong Forest Select 12mm Timber Laminate 'Tasmanian Oak'. Would've looooved to have gone with Bamboo, but unfortunately the budget didn't stretch that far - it's pretty stretched as it is Apologies, only iPhone quality pics. ~Entry Hallway Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~Kitchen (with frame for bulkhead) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~Living area Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~Carpet (Amazon left, Quartz right) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~Timber Laminate - Love the gloss finish. Also looks like the ridge capping has been cemented (******* chipped tiles still there, and still look terrible ) and they have started on the front render. ~Master Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~Kitchen/Living Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~Activity Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~Ridge Capping Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ~Front Render started Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ A few more cornices, white set to go, then not long till LOCK UP!!! Re: Lis’ Santorini – DAH - Ceiling Started 117Nov 19, 2010 10:01 pm Hi Lis - I have windows too and the white set is being done - maybe another day of work and it will be finished. So far so good - a noticed a few little things e.g. scratch, corner not finished properly at the bottom, expossed cement and corner bead - so will wait and see if he is going to go over and check everything before finishing. DH noticed though that some of the cornices are showing cracks where there were cemented and coming away from the walls - not sure what's happening - I'll have to check for myself tomorrow and take some photos. Still waiting for the 3 ugly vents to be removed and the ceilings fixed and somebody thought that putting up some crumbly cement to fill up the gap above the wall in the dining so they can put up the cornice would do - I don't think so!!! I must admit I didn't stay long enough at the house to have a really good look at things - was TOOOOO HOT, oh and the flies, and so many of them Will have a better look during our weekly weekend inspection. What are you having instead of your ceiling vents? I realise they're mandatory but is there an alternative? Re: Lis’ Santorini – DAH - Ceiling Started 119Nov 19, 2010 10:24 pm There is but DAH don't provide alternatives... They should be shot for this cause quality homes don't have ugly plastic looking things. Re: Lis’ Santorini – DAH - Ceiling Started 120Nov 19, 2010 10:37 pm they are mandatory only if you have a negus point for a portable gas heater but not if they heater is flued to the outside. As well the vents for the gas heaters should be low on the wall as the gas is heavier and will sink to the ground and not in the ceilings. My gas heater is in the open area anyway so I don't need them at all - the laundry as well.
