Re: OUR BIG BET - H3NLEY Vs CLARENDON - WHO WILL WIN?? 68Nov 17, 2007 1:28 pm Phoenix,
Great news on all the recent progress! It is very exciting to get to these stages and once work starts you'll be amazed at how fast you forget about all the ground work it took to get you to that point. On site in two weeks, eh? We'll be looking forward to the updates and progress! Our house seems to be cruising along quite well, but I did take note of one thing...we were originally told that our brickwork would take 5-6 weeks (weather permitting). That seemed a bit long to us, but we were willing to sacrifice some time for excellent quality, which we were assured our 'brickie' would be. He's been terrific and despite working slowly and pretty much by himself, has done a remarkable job on the house. I went back to see how long it has actually taken (brickwork will be complete tomorrow or Monday with just a few finishing touches), and the REAL time was 9 WEEKS! The brickie only missed 3 days over the duration of the project and our feedback to H3nley has always been positive, but 9 WEEKS??? That surprised even me when I actually calculated it. I'm sure yours will go much, much quicker due to the fact that our house is double story and yours is single, but also you will more likely have a 'crew' rather than a single person. Our guy was great and we just bought him the customary slab of beer (along with some chocolate cupcakes the wife made), but I certainly hope the time predictions are not that far off going forward with the work because our newest arrival is set for early May and we HAVE to be in by then....no if's and's or butt's about it! Overall, we're still pretty much on track, considering the cut & fill happened in early August. Best of luck with your progress Phoenix, we'll be keeping a keen eye on it! You guys have been very quiet lately. 9 weeks for bricking hey? There is a H3nley home 2 house blocks away from us being bricked by 1 guy as well - lovely old guy (beautiful work we must say) we hope we get him. I would say he's been about 5 or so weeks on-site and i think he's nearly done. We have been told that we "should" get the same crew as the supervisors like to use the same tradies as they trust them and know their work and they tend to stay in the one area to finish their jobs. So we will be watching their workmanship very carefully for any issues ![]() Hope all is going well with baby. Post up some ultrasound pics if you get a chance. We are looking to extend our family again very shortly. So can understand the urgency that you face.... ![]() Oh well someone always has to supervise, i wonder which one of the two of you that will be? ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: OUR BIG BET - H3NLEY Vs CLARENDON - WHO WILL WIN?? 70Nov 18, 2007 8:07 pm Hey Phoenix,
Will have to get the 'better half" to post the ultrasound pic. She's been all over that lately, trying to figure out from the 12 week scan what we might have, posting the whole video on Youtube, you name it. I'll get her to throw that up soon. Best of luck with your 'attempts' to expand the family. I agree those single bricklayers are quite skilled and despite the length (time-wise), I'm all for A1 quality! We'll be watching your blog. -Sorry we've been quiet lately, our little unit has no dishwasher, is small with two rowdy boys and constantly has to be cleaned so each weekend there is time for blog updates and not much else! I am about 8 weeks from completion with Clarendon in Melbourne, and as much as I am enjoying the experience and loving the design, let me give you one piece of advice - Watch them all like a hawk every week (or every day if you can) and hire an independent inspector. This would be the best money you have ever spent... We're in the 'Neighbour notification' stage. That was supposed to be completed on the 20th November. But it doesn't show as being completed yet on the council website. I hope none of the neighbours are kicking up a fuss about it. Final approval is being forecast to be on the 20th December barring any unforeseen problems. Our CSR calls me every week.. without fail. Even though theres nothing to report, she rings up and tells me there's nothing to report. No complaints from me in this department. She's great. It'd be great if you can get your slab down before Christmas. OK, bad for me and our bet.. but you know im only joking round when im boo'ing your progress. I feel like the little steam engine... I'll be there everyday after work to check progress when they start. We will be getting an independant inspector and will get 2 inspections - one at frame stage and one at final completion. As you are no doubt aware we've had a bit of a setback and our site start will now be Friday the 14th of December for site scrape. Then break for X'mas and re-commence on 7/01/08 for Set Out, then 8/01/08 for Drains, 9/01/08 for Underground Power and finally on 10/01/08 the Concreters should start. Hopefully all goes well for next Friday. Cookie i know that you have had your mouth zipped the last 48 hours but feel free to have a crack now. I'm over the hurdle and back on the building track. Re: OUR BIG BET - H3NLEY Vs CLARENDON - WHO WILL WIN?? 80Dec 13, 2007 3:42 pm Very happy to advise that i went to visit our block today - to check for any signs of earthmoving equipment on site, and i nearly died to see that the block had already been cut and they'd delivered a toilet to boot!!!!!
Although we concede that no more will be done before Christmas, it is nice to know that H3nley are true to their word, especially since our little hiccup recently.... Thanks guys. They will be back in the first week of January to re-commence the work....
