Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Lockup 201Dec 07, 2010 9:54 pm Ok, so they were not 'normal' but still, you'd think they'd make even more of an effort to have them available. That was exactly what happened to us, same place too! Sounds a bit suspicious to me - reel us in with cheap estimates and then slug us with reality later on when we are just going to say 'oh well, it's what we want'. I did think they were quite good otherwise. Built with Sw1tch H0mes >Build thread< House status 15/12: Gates and A/C finally installed! But sorry to hear about the tiles, yeah when you pick out a tile you really like and they hit you with a huge extra over cost and then it ends up deleted makes you want to . We had the same thing happen to us, already had house quoted for full height tiling everywhere in ppa and then had chosen a porcelain rectified for our bathroom 600x300 for walls and 300x300 for floors an extra $5000 just for our ensuite alone and a porcelain tile for laundry, can't justify that cost when really we will be the only ones looking at it better to put that money elsewhere, our tiling would have cost us around $16000, far too much. Iam staggered at how quickly all of your builds are coming along still sticks in my craw, how long ours took, the feggles are going to pci 4 weeks after us and started in June I think, and we started end of Feb, but Iam very happy for them just blows me away about ours. I think poor westy has lucked out a bit like us but not quite as bad. Our house has turned out great and we really do love it, and now just think it is ours and all the hassles of waiting to get to the end has finally arrived
Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Lockup 203Dec 07, 2010 11:49 pm See, I worry about this too, we won't be tiling for around 6 months, can almost guarantee SOMETHING will be outta stock, taking out ONE element would totally stuff the rest of ours my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Lockup 204Dec 08, 2010 1:03 am Our tiling is still probably 6 weeks away which will be about 9 months after we picked them. I guess it all depends on the manufacturer/supplier as to whether they keep producing them and it would be too hard for the tile shop to keep stock of everything people have ordered (or more to the point, builders wouldn't want to pay for them that early on). $18K for tiling! They REALLY don't want to do porcelain do they! I think dreamhan has had a worse run that me kazzbah - they started in June too but only had lockup a couple of weeks ago. Our is a 320 x 590 white gloss porcelain recitifed tile... Our tiling came out to $18k originally too and we had to cut out the full length tiling to bathrooms and ensuite toilet to cut the $$ down as DH wouldn't back down on that tile. We said we'd never build again.... Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Lockup 206Dec 09, 2010 9:13 am Whilst we are on the subject of tiles I thought I would just throw this one in for everyone. We got a lot of quotes for porcerlain rectified tiles for the house. We need approx 132 square meters for the main living areas, which are getting laid after we get handover. After multiple ridiculous quotes we found that osbourne ceramic tile warehouse has a tile clearance center. We ended up getting the whole lot including grout and delivery for $4835. These are not the wax covered chinese ones either which I have heard can be an issue. They are exacly the same as the expensive ones in there display showroom but because they were in a shed they came in at half the price!! Now the warehouse looks like an abandoned shed and the displays are just big piles of tiles in the boxes but we were pretty stoked at the savings. Might be worth a look for anyone looking at tiling after you get the keys 17 JUNE SLAB DOWN 23 AUGUST BRICK WORK COMPLETE 15 SEPTEMBER ROOF COMPLETE 25 SEPTEMBER FIRST FLOAT COMPLETE 5 NOVEMBER LOCK UP 12 NOVEMBER GRANO POURED 27 NOVEMBER TILING COMPLETE 8 DECEMBER DEFECTS FIX AND FINAL CLEAN STARTED https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34992 Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Lockup 207Dec 12, 2010 8:02 pm Hi All The new SS is really cracking the whip. I guess you're getting all the attention now the feggles are done.... Hopefully by the break we might have what you've already got now. Is the render is coloured, or just painted? Ours will just be painted. Built with Sw1tch H0mes >Build thread< House status 15/12: Gates and A/C finally installed! This is applied with the colour mixed in. I have not been able to see what is going on as I am stuck out here at work. Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Lockup 212Dec 17, 2010 9:43 pm So what's happened this week abbeybox? Going on last week's progress your tiling should all be done and everything painted with finishing trades and PCI next week..... am I far off??? The alfresco is finished. We met the tiler on Wednesday. He was going to be starting on thursday. We will be going down to take a peek today. Half the second coat of render has gone on. It is all not plain sailing. They installed a paint grade front door instead of a wood grade door. They are going to swap it out. There are quite a number of other little things that are wrong. All in all though the build is going along pretty well. Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Lockup 214Dec 22, 2010 4:01 pm The kitchen is in and the tiling started last friday. We hit a snag before we left. I asked what type of acrylic render they used to render the house? Acrylic, what!!! We did'nt get told to use acrylic. It is sand finish painted. They are going to put a couplee of coats of acrylic on. Whoops. Anyway, Merry Christmas all. Have fun and be safe. Looks good. It seems our tradies stopped early the week before Christmas - our kitchen cabinets didn't arrive and neither have the tiles. The internal doors aren't on yet either. Oh well, hopefully they don't drag their feet when they start back or I'll be cracking the whip! Built with Sw1tch H0mes >Build thread< House status 15/12: Gates and A/C finally installed! They certainly have done a lot of work before the Xmas break. Westy our mob finished early too and the kitchen cabinets that were supposed to be in didn't go in of course and they have run out of bricks for the main bathroom. We will be cracking the whip from the 17th thats for sure, I want to be in my house by April. We said we'd never build again.... Don't breath in Asbestos Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Tiling completed 219Jan 12, 2011 12:13 pm Well we have a potential disaster on our hands. They have rendered the whole house in the wrong product. We asked for unitex acrylic render and they have rendered in cement and it looks terrible. There are none of those nice neat sharp lines that you see on the switch display homes. It is very average in the application and the corners are rounded off bullnose, chipped, crooked things. Very disappointed and if not rectified then it has basically ruined the house. It has been a very frustrating wait to the 17th when everything starts up again. I hope to get some good feedback from switch on how they are going to fix the problem. I have talked to the people at unitex and in their opinion we may be stuck with this crap look. I am struggling to understand why their is confusion. When you go to a display home and like the finish, then you sign up with the builder, you are expecting that the same finish will be applied to your house. Why it is so hard to get the message across is beyond me. We have also been to the house on a few occasions and they have not locked it up over the break. We have been there and the shoppers entrance was propped open with a brick and the front door unlocked. Thankfully nothing has been trashed or stolen. I have gotta say that I am starting to fully understand why a lot of people say they will "never build again" when discussing building a new home. Re: Switch Homes Ten70 - Disaster strikes 220Jan 12, 2011 1:43 pm OMG that is terrible especially as there is a chance you are stuck with it! Disappointing work again by them and so frustrating about having to wait until Monday to do anything about it. Our poor CLO is going to be flooded with all of us wanting to know whats going on - tough biscuits people, it's just not good enough! I have a feeling that security is not a big issue as we have found the same. I know what you mean about the never build again.. this is our second build and if I really hate this Switch Home I will build again though, with someone that gives a damn! We said we'd never build again.... Any electricians here please help. 1) Will the Fan need separate switch to ON/OFF/Speed eventhough it comes with Remote 2) how about… 0 1228 I would be wary.
