Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 11, 2010 9:04 pm Hi all, We have a little problem, Our builder told us the bricks we chose are not in supply for another couple months. They are PGH Aurbagine Catergory 2 ... supply and demand issues apparently. We have been asked to choose another brick, from either PGH or Austral as these are the companies the builder uses. Well the problem is that to get the same colour brick with Austral it is an upgrade to top of range catergory... which we just can not afford to do. There is a brick with PGH which is a little simular (sort of) but not really happy with it, dont really wanna settle on it and not be totally happy... We dont know what to do and what our rights are... can we ask the builder to upgrade at there cost to the same colour within Australs range ... or do we have no choose and have to settle for second best!! Your comments and thoughts would be most appricated Re: Is there anything we can do???? PLEASE HELP 2Jul 11, 2010 9:29 pm Did they specify which group of Austral bricks to pick from? If not, then say you want the ones you like. I am guessing tho, that they would say to pick in the same "range" of Austral as otherwise it would cost them more. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: Is there anything we can do???? PLEASE HELP 3Jul 11, 2010 9:40 pm thanks candylea no, they didnt say anything about cateragories, they just gave us names of bricks that they thought was the closest to the colour we wanted... well that was just not right lol... totally different, we want dark bricks and they said a latte colour brick from austral was the closest.... not even close!!!! Re: Is there anything we can do???? PLEASE HELP 4Jul 11, 2010 9:55 pm Hey bellabelinda, have you had a look at PGH Chocolatto or PGH Cassica? I think brb is building her Barwon with Chocolatto ~ need to go + check her thread... while it's a brown it's got a grey feel to it too, + definitely not too light... The Cassica I haven't seen anywhere, but looks close on the PGH website... do you have the time to take an urgent trip to the PGH Springvale display? Good luck!! ~ cheers, J _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: Is there anything we can do???? Good luck!! ~ cheers, J Hi Bellabelinda, I had the same problem we initially chose Licorice cat 3 and had to re-choose and ended up with Espresso, also a cat 3. I have seen the Chocolatto on another house and it did look good, we just wanted something a little darker. Good luck, not sure where you stand with them. Re: Is there anything we can do???? PLEASE HELP 6Jul 12, 2010 9:35 am Given that it's a supply issue beyond their control, I would be nice about it. You could ask them for a discount on the upgrade. In our contract it specifically says that if "the market" prevents them from fulfilling the contract, they can substitute something else. And in a few cases they have had to, such as changing the style of our window glazing because their company doesn't make the style we want in the size we want. But when they tried to change something that was a result of THEIR mistake then I stood firm, and got a free upgrade as compensation. PLEASE HELP 7Jul 12, 2010 10:07 am We had the exact same issue with PGH Cassica at the start of this year. We waited for the time that they said they would be available, and then they came back and said that they really didn't know when they would be available and we just couldn't wait any longer. We ended up going with Austral's Latrobe, not really as dark brown the Cassica but I am happy with how it has come out. Lisa- Finally in our house!!! Re: Is there anything we can do???? PLEASE HELP 8Jul 12, 2010 8:30 pm Thanks everyone for your comments... we have chosen PGH Vino, same catergory just a darker brick. Just hope it looks just as good!!! Re: Is there anything we can do???? PLEASE HELP 9Jul 12, 2010 9:09 pm Hi guys we are Building the Barwon right near you guys in Botanic Ridge although we are having the Apollo front. I will be creating our thread soon now that we have some progress. In regards to your brick issue..we had the exact same issue. We originally chose PGH Liquorice and was then informed that they no longer were made so they recommended Vino because it was similiar. We decided against this because after driving all the way to Officer that Vino was way way too plummy and dark purple than the charcoal we were after. So we then chose Expresso and ended up loving it more than liqourice..but your right the Austral categorys that we were given had absolutely no charcoal colours or dark colours..and the ones that did were $1000s more...and we had already upgraded to Cat 3 as it was! So the bricks were delivered last week and now we have a bricklayer so heres hoping we chose right.lol They say all good things come to those who wait...so I must be getting a Lamborghini Diablo for all my waiting!!! PLEASE HELP 10Jul 12, 2010 9:15 pm Em&Jamie ... nice to meet you neighbours yay!!! We looked at the expresso as well, but same story as Aurbagine there not going to be ready until September, Our only choice was Vino -- i know what you mean with the colour, but theres a whistler being built in botanic ridge with vino bricks and doesnt look to bad when its all up. I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7140 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
