Re: East v West - Where to put the bedrooms? 18Oct 28, 2007 10:50 am I have to agree that shading would be the best option. We are going to have the main bedroom facing west, and because of the angle of the house, the bedroom will somewhat shade the dining room, and family rooms. The minor bedrooms will be on the east side of the house.
We plan on having some sort of screen to stop being able to see into our ensuite - whether it be trees or a wall, etc. Because of the location it would be hard to have a patio or similar in that part of the garden (at the very front to the side) as the kitchen, meals, family is to the rear of that. My bedroom in my parent's place had a wall that faced west with no windows and the killer was in summer when it was sunny as the bricks would get that hot (like cook an egg on them hot) and they would retain the heat well into the night - an you could feel the heat from them on the inside (despite insulation). I think I'd rather windows to all bricks - at least the glass cools down - bricks hold the heat. Ray.
