Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 20, 2007 9:07 am Hi all,
The construction will start next week.. obviously commencing with siteworks and the usual. I was keen to get kevin to look at the construction as hubby and I have no background/experience with this big project. What are your suggestions about involving an independent inspector? prior to slab (to check plumbing, depth of piers etc?????) slab frame roof lock up fixing handover am missing anything? is there anything in particular to look out for? cheers Re: Phases for independent inspection 2Oct 21, 2007 9:35 pm I spoke to a few inspectors, they normally recommend 2 inspections: 1st before the internal walls (gyprocks) are up (Pre-Plaster ?) and the 2nd one after hand over.
If you don't feel comfortable doing all the checkings & measurements yourself every week or so, may be you can ask your inspector to check a few extra times, e.g.: after slab or frame. It's a few hundred dollars per inspection, compared to the $ you spent for the house, definitely worth it! Re: Phases for independent inspection 3Oct 21, 2007 9:39 pm Yeah, agree with ahuang. Worth the money for peace of mind. To an extent.
Anyway, Kev was our man, too. We just got him to do pre-plaster and handover as even he says that's the two most important ones. [sneakersss] Re: Phases for independent inspection 4Oct 21, 2007 9:47 pm vp,
The stages you have there is all bases covered. Personally frame (pre plaster) and handover is all I see a need for. Its personal choice though Re: Phases for independent inspection 5Oct 25, 2007 10:16 pm YSSIM Anyway, Kev was our man, too. I've heard about him in a few different threads, and as he seems rather highly regarded I think I'd best contact him to do our inspections too! thanks in advance Re: Phases for independent inspection 6Oct 26, 2007 8:49 am donuts YSSIM Anyway, Kev was our man, too.
