Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Regal House 301May 05, 2011 7:05 pm Hi Echo The room we are putting this into is a pretty big family room roughly 5m x 6.5m in total and the particular model we are buying does not have a fan so you will not experience that hot eye ball burning feeling. Plus the flames are pretty small. I know what you are talking about though. In my parents house their wood fire used to give you that feeling however the area was a confined area and it was the fan that dried out my eyes more than anything. We are lucky in the fact that we have two other living rooms for people to watch telly in if it bothers them with ducted reverse cycle in those areas. The telly in the family room is only there so you can watch tv when cooking in the kitchen. Re: Our Regal House 307May 23, 2011 1:40 pm 1. Plantation shutters go in hopefully in 2-3 weeks. No more plastic on bedroom windows. Woo Hoo 2. The fence panels go in this week and the gates to go up this week 3. Limestone paving to get done on Wednesday. We are making a feature paved area off our alfresco so we can put a spa there down the track and have extra seating for when entertaining. It means we will have an area thats undercover thats 6m x 5m and then an additional 4 x 3m which out in the open. 4. Glass pool fencing goes in this week. 5. Shed slab on Wednesday 6. Shed installation on Saturday/Sunday 7. Stones down side of house to go down over the long weekend 8. Plant mature trees and regular plants in backyard over long weekend. 8. Tile the alfresco (after winter job) Then thats it. All finished. Not bad going considering we only moved in 8 weeks ago. Re: Our Regal House 309May 24, 2011 11:56 am luke81 1. Its not finished yet. I think it needs something else out there to give some wow factor. Still have some more things to do out there. The big side yard is next on the agenda. I am excited about this yard as I am going to go nuts with plants out there. I want to create rooms of gardens. Up one end I am going to have it all tropical with palms, clivias, cycads etc. Then next to that on the limestone paved area. some planters with bamboo in them. Then along the fence some larger magnolia little gems and then some tallow trees over the other side. I want to have a contemporary look with an asian and tropical spin out there. Ideally once its established I would like it to be full of plants to the point that you feel like you are taken to a tropical holiday resort. We are going to get an outdoor lounge and a spa so we can sit out there in summer, cook out there, entertain and really enjoy that space. So glad we bought our block when we did. Wrexter - I love living in AG. It is such a friendly place to live, so quiet and I have great neighbours. I heard cows mooing and roosters crowing the other day in the distance. I felt like I was back on the farm. You are going to love living in AG. Re: Our Regal House 312May 24, 2011 1:44 pm Luke, i dislike you very much right now Thats EXSCATLY what I want!! Re: Our Regal House 318May 25, 2011 5:43 pm More progress was made today. We removed 10 cubic metres of sand so we could get the front landscaping and fencing done. Today we brought in 9 cubic metres of quality soil to prepare the side yard. Paving gets done tomorrow. Need to decide on the stones to put down the other side of the house. Blue metal or rainbow quartz... decisions decisions... Our Regal House 319May 25, 2011 9:25 pm I'm in the same boat. What colour are your pavers? Maybe get the quartz for a contrast? Blue metal is cheap and good but also can 'look cheap' aswell. I'd love to get riverbed stones in black but they dont come in trailer size. Maybe get polished stones, they are softer on the feet when bearfoot. What soil did you get? I need to start doing that now the pavers are down, but I've got heaps of wintergrass in my yard now so might kill that first. Its the black stuff that has heaps of organic matter etc etc. 9 cubic metres cost roughly $500. Quote from the soils aint soils website. "Landscape Mix" is "A blend of Selected Sands, Peat, Sawdust, Humus and Active Ingredients. As close to an all round soil as possible. Suitable for planting lawns, garden beds, rockeries, fruit trees etc. Used EXTENSIVELY by the Landscape Trade for its versatility ie; one truck load of soil to do the job. Not recommended for NATIVE PLANTS due to its high nitrogen content." I usually mix this with the existing sand then once your lawn is put down it thrives. I will seasol the lawn in few weeks as well. The soil already has a high nitrogen level so the lawn will take off pretty quickly. Our pavers are limestone. They are a cream colour. They are 400 x 400. We only got 10sqm done in a triangle shape next to the alfresco. Our alfresco is going to be tiled later on in the year. Probably in really big grey tiles. There is a gap of 200mm between where the tiles finish and the pavers start. I plan on filling this with polished stone. So may do this around the side of the house as well where we have done stepping stones etc. The front will probably be quartz. However out the side behind the garage will be blue metal or quartz. Does not have to look too special out there as its for parking a trailer on or an extra car etc. I am leaning toward the quartz as I think it will be cooler. Out the front theres more work to be done however I have not had time this week. Had to get a few odd jobs done inside the house. I might lift a few rolls of turf this weekend as I think I may need to put in another garden bed out the back. Theres too much lawn at the moment. Needs to be softened up a little. of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 23764 "Losers" "humanity" "off time" "your" "top notch" "love symbol" Sounds like ponzo is done using other people's toilets 36 23888 |
