Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 02, 2010 11:15 am Hubby hung a couple of picture frames the other night - one in each of the kids' bedrooms. This morning I noticed water running down the wall below one of the frames. Took it off the wall to find it was very damp/wet where it'd been hanging. This one was on an external wall. Checked the one in the other room, but it was fine - internal wall. Admittedly it HAS been cold, and we've had the heater going quite a bit. The windows are always wet in the mornings too, but I've never noticed dampness behind picture frames before. Is this something we need to worry about? Or just to be expected with the cold weather, heater going, and external wall picture?? Thanks Re: Water/condensation behind picture frames on walls? 2Jul 02, 2010 11:19 am I think it's just the cold weather... there may just be a bit more condensation building up around the frame which is why you have noticed it. We have one bedroom in our house which is ridiculous - moisture has actually run down the wall from the cornice simply because of how cold its been *buuurrrrrrrr* Re: Water/condensation behind picture frames on walls? 4Jul 02, 2010 4:25 pm Never heard of it - and I hail from very cold climes. Maybe it IS just the cold weather... might leave the picture off the wall tonight and see what the wall looks like in the morning. It did rain quite heavy last night, I dunno if it's even possible for a leak to come out through a screw hole though? Hmmmm... double brick, even more unlikely, as I said that's my whole background, double brick, Northern hemisphere. The only way that double brick walls "leak" is when the mortar bridges the brick ties, allowing the moisture to track from outside to inside. I think it's a problem. Thank you for your thoughts 0 8176 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17939 |
