That's great guys, thanks for the responses. I learn so many new things building a house and going on this forum!! Michelle - when i first saw the gap i thought "hmm, that will let the smell out" so we must think alike! Final inspection tomorrow @ 10am - i have already booked the moving van!!! THEY HAVE FINISHED THE HOUSE AFTER NINE LONG MONTHS... BUT! The carpet is the wrong colour... Re: Gap above toilet door 25Oct 25, 2007 10:51 pm Don't understand, I thought nowadays all the bathroom doors can be easily opened from outside using a coin or something. Why would you want to lift the whole door then? Wouldn't that be quite heavy and could cause more damage if you drop it on top of the person inside the toilet?? Why would you want to lift the whole door then? Wouldn't that be quite heavy and could cause more damage if you drop it on top of the person inside the toilet?? The problem is not unlocking the door. This is the easy part. But if someone is unconcious on the other side of the door you may not be able to push the door open. This would particularly be the case if the toilet is just on the otherside of the door. Yes, dropping the door on someone having a heart attack would not be a good move. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Gap above toilet door 27Oct 25, 2007 11:35 pm I can see where they are coming from. When I was a little younger & sillier, a mate of mine got more than his intake down the pub. A good 1/2 hour after he was 'headed for the mens' he hadn't returned, so we went looking for him.
He'd passed out, and was leaning against the door of a cubicle. I was the only sober one amongst us (I'm always the designated driver as I rarely drink) I managed to spin the lock from 'engaged' around to 'vacant' using the end of my car key, but we couldn't get the door open as he wouldn't budge. Luckily one of his mates was the size of a jockey, and we hoisted him up over the top, so he could lift him off the door to open it. Had there been a 'lift off' door fitted, it would have been a lot easier, and saved vital seconds if he had passed out from a medical reason instead of excess intake & over-tiredness..... Correct. Domestic door locks now also have a hole in them to unlock from the outside (with a skewer or whatever) And if you've had a heart attack, the door falling on you may not be first thing you'd worry about.
