Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 29, 2010 1:34 pm Hi Guys, I am in preliminary talks with Fairmont homes with building my first home. See below for the plans and the site plan as well. Few points... They have drawn it up to sit how it is on the block, although I would probably rather have the left hand side of the house as the 'dead side' up against the fence so I can use more of the side yard next to the kitchen??? The plan itself is fairly standard, with only minor changes to the ensuite, a few cavity sliding doors swapped in for normal doors and extensions to the width of the Family, Meals, Kitchen and Lounge as well as an extension to the length of the Meals and the Lounge. I'm thinking of going back to two single roller doors rather than the large panel lift door. If anyone has any feedback that would be great! I've sent a whole list of questions in regards to the plans and my new quote to Fairmont today, so hopefully get some positive feedback. Remove the BIR from Bed 2, 3 and do this at a later date. Change the Roller Door from an upgraded 'panel lift' door to a standard double roller door Also possibly removing all overhead cupboards from the kitchen and do these at a later date because the price just seems far to much for me... They are charging: $2,317 for 3.9m of overhead cupboards (even though i don't beleive the whole 3.9m is needed) $156 for a 'fridge' end panel $578 for an overhead microwave provision (which seems way too expensive? afterall all it is, is an extra powerpoint in the wall and one overhead cupboard?) Whats peoples thoughts on the changes and/or prices? Thanks Re: Portland Mk2 - Fairmont Homes (Adelaide) 3Jul 01, 2010 9:34 pm Hi kf9, I’m in preliminary talks with Fairmont homes about building my first home too. I’m looking at building the Monaco. I got a quote and some plans drawn up and am meeting with them again this weekend to discuss some changes. I looked at your design. In regards to the roller door, I’ve seen plenty of houses with two roller doors that look great. A work colleague of mine chose to have two roller doors on his new house as he didn’t like how you could see everything that was in your garage when you have one big roller door up. I thought that was a good point. I noticed that the internal access door from the garage is swinging the same way as mine. I was planning to swap it so it swings the other way. Still swing into the house but to the left so I don’t have to walk around it if I’m, for example, taking bags of groceries into the kitchen. I also noticed that you don’t have any windows at the back of the house but you have quite a bit of yard there. If a family were to live there, then being able to watch the kids out back would be a good thing. I’ve always thought it was a drawback of my chosen design that I couldn’t see out back from the kitchen. Your microwave provision sounds expensive. On my quote I have an under bench microwave provision that includes a pot drawer below and p/point for $115. You might want to consider something like that. I was thinking of changing it to look something like this.
