Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 23, 2007 7:04 am Hi all, we settled on our block on Friday (1.5 acres). We went out on Sunday to dig a hole, because now we can and our new neighbour has burnt a big patch of his block which is on our border, he has also burnt four of my trees and the metal fence.
This might be a silly question but will the fence be weaker because it's burnt? I know it's metal but just wondering. Also, if I don't complain about him burning our block and the trees fall onto his block will he have to fix the fence? I really don't want to start off on the wrong foot with the neighbour before we even start building. Re: Neighbour burnt his block - and mine! 2Oct 23, 2007 7:17 am Hey - we dug a hole too once it was settled!
Have you spoken with the neighbour? Maybe just a casual conversation to ascertain what happened? Was it an accident or was there a reason? Their answers might help you decide your next actions. Just build it the way I want and everything will be okay. Re: Neighbour burnt his block - and mine! 3Oct 23, 2007 7:24 am I don't know where to start to find who bought the block. I asked the developer and they said they couldn't tell me. I have never seen them there when we're there. Re: Neighbour burnt his block - and mine! 5Oct 23, 2007 8:21 am Yep, post and wire. Maybe it is worth complaining if it's going to rust and I'll need to replace it. Re: Neighbour burnt his block - and mine! 6Oct 23, 2007 8:42 am Sounds like a burn off that got away on them.
Yes rh wire will rust a lot quicker after being burnt and it also weakens it - especially if it was high tensile wire. and yes if your trees now fall on the fence - it will be classified as your fault. So do a search council or on the land titles office and find out their names and contact details and ask them about it and take it from there.
