Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 27, 2010 9:58 pm Hi All This is a new post...building the Glendale 28 with Places Homes....is anyone experiencing the same amount of nightmares that we are???? We are just about at lock up and our CSR has been nothing but disappointing, but quality of construction is really pleasing. Also, does anyone know who stocks wallpaper, or if anyone knows where we can go to get some wallpaper. We have searched high and low and no one actually stocks it in the stores...lookimg for textured wallpaper, but not being fussy Check out our blog.... http://ourglendale28.blogspot.com GOING SLIGHTLY MAD Glendale 28 Check out our BLOG - complete photos of all disasters and progress http://ourglendale28.blogspot.com/ Re: Places Homes Glendale 28 2Jun 29, 2010 3:43 pm hellow prawncracker. awesome! another person building the same home as me! only ours is the glendale 23 with the 2 square bonus. our building wont start till around about october. but service has been pretty good so far. yeah the quality of the homes are second to none i hear. great that you have a blog! i'll be checking it out for sure! i look forward to hearing progress. what sort of problems have you been having? anything i need to be aware of? You've asked if we have experienced any nightmares.....well it has been 4 months since we've signed the contract and still no signs of the PCV's that were brought up on that day despite numerous follow up emails sent to the CSR and telephone conversations with them.... On the positive note I do believe that their houses are of high quality at a reasonable price. Re: Places Homes Glendale 28 5Jun 29, 2010 8:46 pm Hi Prawncracker, congratulations on your build. Re: wallpaper, I saw some wallpaper books in a Solver decorator centre so it might be worth a try. They have such beautiful wallpaper now. Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Re: Places Homes Glendale 28 6Jun 29, 2010 11:14 pm Hi KatieK It took us forever to see the correct PCV's....construction was already underway and nearly at lock up before we got anything....the quality of build is fantastic and the SS is very helpful...hopefully will have completed building soon...have you made many changes to the layout of your glendale? Re: Places Homes Glendale 28 9Jun 30, 2010 7:50 pm our CSR is completely useless...being pushy failed...doing it ourselves failed...nothing happened until we spoke to the CSR Supervisor...quality of construction is awesome....we didn't make many changes to the layout....just inverted the wall in the theatre and made a few changes to the laundry and the entry from garage we have been shopping like crazy for the new house but we are worried that once it gets to lock up...we aren't going to be able to pick up the mistakes... what changes has everyone made? is anyone else building with places? (shower niches forgotten, fridge space was standard width) but overall we love our house with places Re: Places Homes Glendale 28 11Jun 30, 2010 9:25 pm Hi Prawncraker & reflect, We didn't make too many changes to the floor plan as we love it as it is. The only things we did was change the bed4 into a study & replaced the window near the dining area into sliding doors. Reflect, I completely agree with them being strict in regards to making structural changes. We realli wanted to have pivot doors for the front entrance door, but they didn't allow us to do this =( Prawncraker, love your blog, please keep the photos coming... Re: Places Homes Glendale 28 12Jun 30, 2010 9:32 pm hi jeremy where are you building your fairhaven? we have been double and triple checking everything, but like I said earlier, our CSR is as useful as a 2nd as*hole...lol NOTE: if you are thinking of buying surround sound systems for your house check out EASTWOOD HiFi in sydney...they have a website with all their gear for sale and it is all quality...that's where we got our stuff for...it cost around $100 for delivery but its worth it...all top notch gear there guys! the changes we made were minor but we weren't told that the kitchen overhead cupboards on display in the glendale in tarneit were custom made...they told us we couldn't do it, however it was signed for at contract signing so it had to be honored...it was priced at an extra cost but we were given it for free as the sales manager thought it was just a case of leaving the handles off the cupboard....we also have the access door from the garage in the laundry and have flipped the configuration of the laundry...we have a longer bench and smaller cupboard...other than that, we inverted the theatre wall so that the nook is inside the family area and we have opted for the whole wood stained facade...including the door...we are extremely happy with the choices we have made...also have changed dining room windows into sliders and went for the bedroom option... interested to hear what other people have done with their houses.... We've had a few false starts with our CSR, but being a 'pedantic b*stard' such as I am has come in handy. If there is a mistake, it will be brought to their attention, if its not addressed it will be brought to their bosses attention. Only needed to do it a couple of times for them to get the idea, mistakes will happen and the onus is really on us as its our money we're spending on it. Hopefully we'll get out site start this week. KatieK Hi Prawncraker, did u have to pay extra for wall insulation? Can't speak for prawncracker, but no wall insulation is included as standard to meet the base 5 star rating, its only added if you specifically request it or if its required to meet 5 star for your specific site, either way you pay extra for it. Cheers, i think most of its in there already.. usually prefaced with [RANT] at the top of the post For the most part, the issues have been fairly minor at contract stage there were some issues that involved a reasonable amount of money that we had problems with but got that sorted in the end. Outside of that its mostly been either drafting, estimating or admin issues all have which have been overcome, not always in our favour but settled to both parties satisfaction at least.
