Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 27, 2010 7:46 pm as a first home buyer, i have my block of land already purchased and am now in the process of talking to builders in my area. i am situated in northern victoria and am looking at the bigger builders (metricon, Simmonds etc), i have spoken to basically all of them and they have been greatly helpful, i am thinking of going with GJ GARDNER purely because they have great designs and are flexible and at the right price, i am researching all builders but mainly i am after some feedback from people who have dealt with them. the sales staff are great i spoke to but i know they have to be to sell but any help is greatly appreciated. my building area is around the Albury/Wodonga area in Vic Re: first home buyer question 2Jun 27, 2010 7:56 pm Macca-do a search of each of the builders and maybe PM those who have used them. You can also google reviews on most of the builders you have named. All the best on your decision making! All the best on your decision making! thanks deemaree, i have looked at alot of reviews for most of the big builders and they scare you a little bit, couldnt really find much on GJ in victoria, alot of other states mainly. will keep looking Re: first home buyer question 4Jun 27, 2010 8:09 pm You could also ask the builder you are interested in if they have customers who would be happy to speak to you about their experience with that company in your area.....often the online reviews are bit unbalanced as it's often those who have had poor experiences who are the most vocal-whereas those who are happy with their build just get on with enjoying their home! If you have a trawl through the forums you'll find that most of us buy bits & pieces for the house as we go along... In our case our builder (National Builders Group) supply quite good quality oyster light fittings throughout the house-but we have arranged to supply some pendants ourselves and have them fitted by the sparky when the time comes. If you have done your research and know prices for what you want you can decide whether to go through your builder or just get them done yourself... Go to display homes, check builders online sites for plans. Then when you find what you like, you can think about the little extras you may want to buy. Most builders probably supply basic items for their houses and you can decide after you have seen what they supply you can buy extras. Good luck with choosing a builder.
