Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 25, 2010 4:40 pm Hi all What did people choose for their carpet? We went standard carpet but premium underlay. Do you think this will make much of a difference? I hope it makes the standard carpet feel not so standard. Or do you think I just wasted my money? I only have carpet in the 4 bedrooms in our house. 1st Tender - 20 March 2010 Slab - 14 August 2010 Frames - 31 August 2010 Roof - 11 September 2010 Bricks finished - 2 October 2010 Lock up - 15 October 2010 Keys - 10 December 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having the premium underlay certainly does make a difference. If you are able to upgrade the carpet to a Category 1 then it will feel much better too when you step on it. Who are you building with? as depending on the builder, the Categories will be different. Re: Carpet underlay - premium or standard? 3Jun 25, 2010 4:50 pm Oh good i've chosen underlay but i think its too late to change the carpet. building with masterton? i suppose the standard stuff is pretty crappy? I love that real dense twisted carpet but that was 9 levels up from standard (blow the budget). Thanks for the advice! So you love the premium stuff? I suppose in time the standard stuff would just flatten more quickly? 1st Tender - 20 March 2010 Slab - 14 August 2010 Frames - 31 August 2010 Roof - 11 September 2010 Bricks finished - 2 October 2010 Lock up - 15 October 2010 Keys - 10 December 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=41002 Re: Carpet underlay - premium or standard? 4Jun 25, 2010 4:52 pm Hi BZMZ - I have read on the flooring thread that good underlay can make your carpet last years longer as long as the carpet is laid correctly. We upgraded our underlay to the premium too - we went with our Builders Category 2 Carpet - we're having it in just the 4 bedrooms and the Home Theatre room - to be honest I don't think there was much or any different with the Cat 2 and Cat 1 carpet other than the colour options (nicer in my opinion) - if the colour that I wanted was in the Cat 1, i would've chosen it as, like you, the carpets are in the bedrooms which aren't high traffic areas - not like if it was in a hallway or a lounge. In my opinion, with my limited knowledge of flooring, I believe you have made a wise decision Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: Carpet underlay - premium or standard? 5Jun 25, 2010 4:57 pm We went premium underlay, but we didnt get our carpet through our builder so no idea what category our carpet would be! not standard im sure! 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! The standard carpet that our builder offered reminded me of a matt that you wipe your feet on. All up the carpet cost us around $6,000 for 100+ sqm's Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: Carpet underlay - premium or standard? 7Jun 25, 2010 7:33 pm thanks all for the advice all - you have made me feel alot better. Re: Carpet underlay - premium or standard? 9Jun 26, 2010 3:07 pm our castle we didn't get ours through the builder but was meant to be $4 per sqm i think... they threw it in for nothing for us as we were referred to them. 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! I would be asking them to define just what products they are. Ash. Hi Ash, Can you kindly elaborate it a bit more? As I heard from Carlisle, they have only two underlays. Standard and Premium. Thanks. Re: Carpet underlay - premium or standard? 12Jun 26, 2010 10:05 pm We got the choice of standard med and prem. Was about 400 for 4 bedrooms for us so not too bad. 1st Tender - 20 March 2010 Slab - 14 August 2010 Frames - 31 August 2010 Roof - 11 September 2010 Bricks finished - 2 October 2010 Lock up - 15 October 2010 Keys - 10 December 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=41002 Re: Carpet underlay - premium or standard? 13Jun 27, 2010 12:06 am You are mostly speaking in terms here that I don't understand. The 'categories' you refer to I know nothing about. I guess it is a set of options that the builders have pre-selected. They would have various suppliers offer a number of ranges of carpets and underlays from which you can select. When it comes to their 'standard or premium' underlays, I would expect the standard is pretty basic quality and the premium is mediocre at best. There are literally dozens of various underlays really, so the preselected ones that builders offer is a very restricted choice. Of course you can get much better! But if budget is restricted, their offerings might be fine. Ash. 1 2579 Hi l plan to install a self adhesive vinyl plank floor. l first need to attach masonite boards underlay to by plywood subfloor of my house. What size nails and how many… 0 8356 Jimbo73 I would use heaps of adhesive on each sheet and screw rather than nail. use as many as you like cheers Simeon 1 4043 |
