Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 07, 2009 10:26 pm Loft is a relatively new Colorbond colour which we are having for our roof:
http://www.colorbondcolours.com/go/home ... olour-tips We originally went with Jasper (as it was the darkest brown colour previously) but as soon as we saw the Loft we changed our brick colour to suit it. Our bricks will be Boral - Ripponlea (the pic below does not reflect the true colour, in real life it is much darker and the dark browns more prominent) http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/diamondzoe/Elan-Gallery-Standard-Ripponlea.jpg Now l've seen the Ripponlea in real life with a dark grey roof and it looked fabulous, the chocolate tones in it really stood out. So l am thinking that the Loft will look just as good. However, what has got me a bit concerned of late is on a spec home that is being built with the Loft roof and a dark grey/brown brick, the Loft seems to be very reflective in sunlight so the chocolate tone in the roof is overtaken with aubergine tone which makes it appear lighter in colour overall. Whilst l do love the colour and the effect it has in sunlight, l'm stressing out that with my bricks the effect will be that the chocloate tones in them will be lost and the reddy browns in the bricks will then become more prominent. Hence it may look like a red brick house with a light aubergine/brown roof As such, l'm now second guessing my brick choice and am wondering whether to change them to a really prominent dark colour, like Raheen, Rattan or Mocha?? What makes it hard too is that as Loft is a new colour there is only one home in this area with it, so l can't go and compare other bricks with it or see what the roof does when the house is orientated differently. So l'm asking my fellow H1 members to help me out a bit.....If you are going to look at display homes or are building in a new estate could you please look out for homes that have the Loft roof? ....and if you spot any, can you be so kind to take some pics as well? It will either give me peace of mind in keeping my bricks as is or whether i'l be better to change them to something darker. Thanks guys, l really would be eternally grateful for your assistance And to think l was all set with my colour selections....yesterday my kitchen colours, today my roof.....what the hell next?? Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 2Mar 07, 2009 10:29 pm I know where one is. I will take a pic for you this week. But it may not be until about Thursday. Is that ok???
I personally think the Loft has a significant eggplant colour to it. But I still think it would look great with your bricks. I wouldn't go darker if it was me. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 3Mar 07, 2009 10:40 pm joles I know where one is. But I still think it would look great with your bricks. I wouldn't go darker if it was me. OMG Really!! How awesome.....thank you thank you thank you! Thursday will be fine..... Yeah it has lots of eggplant (particularly on the colorbond site visualiser ) ...but from what l see on the spec home, it's darkest when in the shade, sunset or a cloudy day but in full-on sunlight, it loses it's dark tones and looks very reflective and light iykwim? I've never seen a roof that can change to such a degree. Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 4Mar 08, 2009 2:41 pm Hey Thorney,
Glad you posted this - we were thinking of loft but I have only seen it in samples and on colorbond website - I am doubtful about the purply tone that seems really obvious against a very brown brick. With your brick being in brown tones I would be a bit worried about the whole purple colour....can't wait to see pics of Joles... our other option is Jasper or then to go grey... Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 5Mar 08, 2009 2:44 pm Another one here thinking of using the Loft,
untill I realised how dark it was and wouldn't go well with our brick color. It's soooo nice, can't wait to see the pics Joles posts soon. So l'm not going by the Colorbond website, to me, it is not a true indication of the real colour, though the pic of the house in the link l posted is probably the closest match to my sample. Anyone know how to lift the roof bit off that pic and post it with my bricks, like Michelle did above? I'm actually going to go to the Colorbond centre tomorrow and see if they have the big sample of it up on their walls yet...and see if they have some addresses too! Oh and of course hang out til Thursday to see the pic Joles comes back with Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 11Mar 08, 2009 6:09 pm I have the samples, and I’ve seen it on a house, not as a roof, but as a small facia.
Its purple/eggplant….not brown Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 12Mar 08, 2009 6:44 pm Michelle Its purple/eggplant….not brown lol, l think it may just come down to each individuals colour perception As long as it looks good with my bricks, in which l hope it will, l love the samples that you posted Michelle, l'll be happy. And if it turns out that it is more eggplant than chocolate then l currently perceive it to be, then l'll reconsider my portico render colour. Instead of a browny colour perhaps a nice lighter shade of purple will work better you think? I ask if they have any addresses of people that have built with Loft...the guy says "no" , he goes to off to ask another guy who also says no, but then remembers the spec home that we already have seen. I ask, so is there any houses in the works that are looking to be built with Loft in the next couple of months....again, the answer was No So it seems that we will be the first private home in Albury-Wodonga to be build with Loft......'tis a great thing but it's a wee bit scary too! I then ask if they have got a bigger sample of it...the guy says hang on a minute and goes out the back. 5 minutes later he walks out with 20cm x 30cm piece... , it's not corrugated, but hey l wasn't gonna complain! Off we head to the Boral display centre, to see our bricks again and see how the Loft looked with them....pics below (note that the top bricks are not Ripponlea but whatever is on the other side of the wall) http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/diamondzoe/IMGA0229.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/diamondzoe/IMGA0230.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/diamondzoe/IMGA0231.jpg The Loft looks definitely eggplant in full sun (which the pics show)....in the shadows/dark it the chocolate definitely takes over. In any case, l think either way it looks fine with the bricks (when Loft looks eggplant it goes with the reds and when it looks chocolate it goes with the browns) But what do ya's reckon? Have we still made a good choice? Oh! and DH is still worried about having the classic cream as the fascia....I think it will tie in with the windows and mortar nicely, but he reckons it'll be too big a contrast...so l'd like your opinions on that too please! Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 16Mar 10, 2009 11:58 am Oooohhhhh I love how it matches the little bubbly bits in the bricks!!!! Does that make sense?? Looks great!!!
Hmmm, the classic cream may be a bit yellowy... what about paperbark instead? It's slightly more muted than classic cream but will still give you a contrast. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 17Mar 10, 2009 12:04 pm Thorney it looks great. I think it's great how it changes color in different lights, and yes it looks good as both eggplant and chocolate!
I like a contract for the fasica. Are your windows classic cream also? If yes, I'd match them to fasica also. Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 18Mar 10, 2009 12:16 pm Thanks Bel - yeah the windows are classic cream and the mortar will be cream too.
Thanks Joles - I never noticed how the dark bubbly bits (love your terminology ) matches with it. I did grab other samples (paperbark and sand something) but l really didn't want to add another colour in the scheme (and l still have to decide on the portico render colour too!)....the paperbark looks good, but then l'd have to change my windows which l don't really want to as l prefer the yellow-cream look than adding yet more beige (my whole entire house inside is almost beige as it is! ) So as for the fascia, it will either stay classic cream or we'll go the Loft, but am thinking that the Loft will make the whole house too dark and make the cream windows/mortar look out of place iykwim? Re: Loft - Colorbond Roof ....Help Needed! 19Mar 10, 2009 12:22 pm Yep, didn't know what colour your windows were. Won't stand out if it's matching with something else on the facade.
I'd keep it Classic Cream as opposed to doing it all Loft. I also like a contrast between the guttering and fascia. I'm looking forward to seeing this home come together. My terminology is excellent isn't it?? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
