I've spent some time there over the past few years when I've gone over with English Channel swims....we have stayed in Dover & varne Ridge and I just love the drive down to Sandwich etc.... Dee I was in Maidstone..there is a prison there! although I like Deal etc if I ever had to live back there (hubby is from Maidstone..I was his prison penpal) not really, joke great mate Ma and pa immigrated to sydney from nz when I was 3 (turramurra when it was bush) and then Maidstone..when I was 12, as you do...NOT Kent on a sunny summers day is magic and our view in NZ reminds me of the south downs. swimming that channel would have been cold for them...brrrr! summer or winter! Re: Plans and photos of our land in NZ (I know, gate crashin 23Jun 30, 2010 8:13 am Good morning Oh Kiwi one! I loved Deal-they had the BEST butcher there which had more types/cuts of bacon than I have ever seen anywhere else...and a great pub full of cricket memorabilia! The Channel water isn't that bad-it's about the same in their Summer as it is here in Warrnambool-so we don't find it a problem! Some of the swimmers who go over from hotter countries have problems though..we saw one guy from Argentina succumb to hypothermia quickly because he was used to water temp of 23c and Dover harbour was about 17c..there we were dripping wet after an hour swim and standing around...he was curled up in a ball shivering uncontrollably after 15mins... Ive seen the brown sea at broadstairs. (got to love margate ay...that was a big day out to the seaside in my teen years.. it had sand and not stones) glad you enjoy going over there. It is fab to visit, glad I dont live there though. Too cold, for too many months. Mum and dad and bro and sisters are still there but I came back here to raise a family. love having kids saying 'pin' for a pen and all Re: Plans and photos of our land in NZ (I know, gate crashin 25Jun 30, 2010 9:02 am I love the Kiwi accent! I went to primary school in Turramurra when it was just bush and cheap, and then high school in the UK so my accent sounds like a posh ozzie one (I know! dont usually see those words in the same sentance ) everyone here thinks I am an ozzie, so I guess I dont sound very kiwi, except I say "ay' a lot and also when I am hanging with my homies...I say cousie bro ALL THE TIME! Re: Plans and photos of our land in NZ (I know, gate crashin 27Jun 30, 2010 3:44 pm A posh Aussie accent sounds like a pom anyway! When I lived in Auckland we used to holiday to that area all the time and loved Matapouri and Whale Bay. Moved to Sydney when I was 13 with parents but I still manage to visit lots and last time I was there with Hubby I managed to take him to Whale Bay, it's just such and lovely and quiet spot. Hope the build goes smoothly and quickly for you. Re: Plans and photos of our land in NZ (I know, gate crashin 34Jul 02, 2010 12:08 pm they do the haka really well!

I have the sketch back from daughts guy re showing only a 3 bedroom house, I have my cert of title on the land, and I am awaiting the engineers report re poo/ water tanks etc (as we are on septic and rain water) Once that arrives (suppose to be 'end of this week' ) I will put that into council to have a PIM done. While that is being done, I will organise drawings for council...and when they are ready, put those in...PIM should be done, they go together and boom...permit and we are OFF! House has come back at $262k with carpets/ tiles from one builder. Am awaiting one other quote. Told him to take off flooring as "I have a mate' so the goal is 250k house, 10k floors, 30k septic/tanks, 5 k hot water heat pump system, 5k earth works..2k heatpump we only have $285k..so I dont think it adds up...but who cares!!! we will wing it like all of you.... so now we wait...............and dream, and window shop re lights etc.................... YAY! Re: Plans and photos of our land in NZ (I know, gate crashin 37Jul 02, 2010 2:16 pm Looking at those pics I have to wonder why I ever left. I left for an adventure and got stuck in Melbourne. Found a job, good drinking mates and then a husband a few years later and then had 2 boys (now men). So here we stay for now. If I ever went back it would be to the north.
