Just want to pose a question to the forum to see if we are on the right/wrong track.
We have to make our colour selections soon, and have come up with three options for our elevation.
Our front elevation looks like this: http://www.mccrackenhomes.com.au/canterbury.html
Option 1:

Gutter: Colourbond Monument

Front Door: Painted Jasper
Portico: Colourbond Dune
Render Moulding: Colourbond Dune
Garage Door: Colourbond Jasper http://www.colorbondcolours.com/go/bsl- ... tch/jasper
Window Frames: Woodland Grey
Option 3:

Gutter Fascia: Colourbond Dune http://www.colorbondcolours.com/go/bsl- ... watch/dune
Brick: PGH Pistachio http://www.pghbricks.com.au/Bricks/Defa ... ?ItemId=72
Front Door: Painted to match garage door
Portico: Colourbond Jasper
Render Moulding: Painted Jasper
Garage Door: TimberGrain Classic Cedar http://www.bnd.com.au/brochures/view/ot ... index.html
Window Frames: Monumnet
Overall they are reasonably close, but we are just wondering if we have too much of one colour, or not enough contrast etc. Has anyone out there used similar colours ?
We are building in Adelaide in the Golden Grove area. Appreciate any opinions or advice.
with thanks,
Captain.
You've already chosen Dune as an accent to your colours, but it might be worth thinking of using it for your roof colour.
From a purely visual perspective I think you're spot on. From a living with it perspective (especially here in Adelaide), I'd seriously reconsider. If you really are keen on the dark roof then you should strongly consider upping your insulation and ensuring that you have sarking.
We haved used similar colours dune render, roof, guttering and fascia and cedar look door. Hope this helps
Dune was chosen mainly for comfort purposes in Summer as somewoman pointed out earlier.
We went lighter again and did surfmist with very pale render, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. We think it looks wonderful, and the house so far is VERY comfortable in any weather conditions that we've experienced while there - although it is still under construction. It will only get better when we've finished
Alas Melbourne winters required heating.
I've been going through a very similar process and been thinking about using Monument for roof and windows and Dune for the accent as well and I have decided to go for the classic cedar garage door. i actually really loved the Jasper colour but I just couldn't get it to work in my case with our other options and the limitations set on us by our site. I've actually coloured up a facade plan using the Paint tool in approximation of the colours to check it works. Colorbond also offer an online visualiser . You have to use one of their facade options rather than your own but it helps you visualise the colours together I palyed about with that as well...
Thanks moonahgirl....choosing colours isnt easy hey !
re: classic cedar door - was it a signicant $ increase over standard colourbond colours (if you dont mind me asking, of course...)
I think any of those combinations would look nice, although wondering if you've considered going paler at all? The paler you go with your colours, the more heat will be reflected. Here in Adelaide it should make a substantial difference to the comfort of your house in the summer.

Thanks Somewoman.
Understand you on the roofing re-colour.... Something I am very conscious of. I was thinking of offsetting it by putting sarking or a whurly bird in the roof to cool the airgap between the ceiling and roof. I wonder if whurly-bird would off-set the temperature gain by using a darker roof vice a lighter one...much cheaper than sarking as well. Will play around online and see how some lighter colours work. From my driving around the 'burbs, dark brown, grey are very common colours.... so it cant be that bad.....
Hard problem now is that we like the three options we have come up with....back to the drawing board ?

Thansk mdzzj. Those colours look very nice. That rollerdoor - is that genuine cedar or is that a colourbond metal ?
ta.
The classic cedar was definately more - I think its costing us $1000 not sure if that is a total or just the extra? Does that seem too much??
looks like its worth it !
