Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 17, 2010 10:46 pm I've got a clean slate to work with! Ripping out all the shelves and get them fitted out myself!! How exciting I thought until I googled pantry shelving now there are way too many ideas, and I may need to get a (new) house to incorporate them.. So, I have three sides - it's not a WIP but there's plenty of room (and before you ask me the measurements - no idea - can't find our house plans ) I know we will absolutely be getting have a laminated appliance bench. The rest is up to me. DH was originally going to have cupboards below but I think it will be too small and the opening doors will annoy me - I want to be able to walk in and see things...opinions?? Shelving better underneath the appliance bench - should we have different sizes? I need space for BIG oil containers (ethnic background), and lots of Tupperware containers at my disposal. I've seen sideways shelving for trays (like) and small square shelves...or is big open better? Sorry for my ramble - that's what happens when I'm googling at this hour! So, what are some ideas - or ideally - show me your pantry design... My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: Help me design my pantry.... 2Jun 17, 2010 10:48 pm Have you checked Howard's Storage World online? They have the Elfa system I think....plus all the nifty containers etc..... I have their catalogue as bed time reading... (and ikea, and store, and any other possible storage catalogue I can get my hands on...) Actually I'm going to have melamine shelving added in - I like the look better... My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. There is a waist height bench deep enough to drop grocery shopping bags on or for gathering bits and pieces needed for cooking. The shelves above this bench are only around 10mm deep so nothing can be found lurking at the back. The underneath shelves will be deeper for things we buy in bulk and oil, ethnic background for him and he does all the cooking, lucky me!!! One end will have the freezer and applicance bench the other end a wine rack. As you walk in the doors there is a bank of long thin shelves on one side for everyday items like salt, pepper, spices, tea, coffee and so..... It looks fantastic on paper so here's hoping it works well, all we need now is a house, LOL.... Mrs J Re: Help me design my pantry.... 6Jun 18, 2010 1:37 pm This is my pantry without cupboard doors underneath. I use it for storage of all the bulkier items like the slow cooker, bread machine, platters etc. Its a bit of a pain now with the little ones grabbing things from underneath, but I wouldn't change it. I've moved all the shelves to suit the toaster, microwave and coffee area. I heart my WIP!

Think that the shelves rather then cupboards is a winner! me,he&little she This is my pantry without cupboard doors underneath. I image you will have the dream pantry set up with all the Tupperware galore! Re: Help me design my pantry.... 9Jun 18, 2010 1:58 pm We have four shelves in ours. It is around 5.5m long and close to 2m wide. The two bottom shelves are 45cm deep and the two top are 30cm deep. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Help me design my pantry.... 10Jun 18, 2010 5:57 pm I have serious pantry envy, part of the reason we're looking to build again is my current pantry, which is STUFFED full of stuff my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Help me design my pantry.... 12Jun 18, 2010 6:23 pm Depending how deep your pantry is, you might want to consider some pull-out drawers or baskets for things like Tupperware. You know how that stuff likes to spring out of cupboards and off shelves. I swear it's alive. I find that our deep shelves below waist level are a bit of a PITA because I always have to bend down and move things to reach the stuff at the back. The only alternative is to stack everything at the front and waste all the extra space. I'm looking at some pull-out baskets to make it work a bit better. Something like this (only bigger ): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Help me design my pantry.... 13Jun 18, 2010 6:27 pm Kek, I had some wire drawers that attached under the shelves in my last pantry-very handy for things like food wrap, baking paper etc as they were the shallower ones....I got them at K Mart and Howard's Storage World...will probably do the same in my next pantry too. I image you will have the dream pantry set up with all the Tupperware galore! The pressure is on I have to say! Thanks Kyton, Dee and Kek. You all have me thinking... Kyton - I owe you! DH is now convinced that cupboards under the bench won't work and very much likes your open layout! I think underneath is exactly what we are going to do... but - Kek you have me thinking about the underbench. I have a shocking back (that of a 60 year old apparently) so bending down is a PITA...but I was thinking of having a divided pantry... So, front up - open shelving underneath for big things - oil..bulk things etc, and them maybe on the side some shelving or those pull out thingies for random things like freezer bags (which make the biggest mess!)..paper towels etc. Then the idea of mehe&ls...on the sides. Even taking it further to have divided long shelves for chopping boards, trays etc...seen some pics of the web similar to yours..but can't load them. Computer having bad day! Oh the possibilities... Thanks for taking the time, you've given me some great inspiration! Feel free to keep them coming.... My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: Help me design my pantry.... 15Jun 19, 2010 1:55 pm I'm moving our most often-used spices (in their Tupperware containers ) to some shallow racks attached to inside the door, and my baking stuff needs to be in baskets that I can slide out. Shallow shelving is a much better idea than deep shelves. If I could redesign my kitchen, I'd have a long walk-in pantry with a nice big benchtop with drawers under, and masses of shallow shelving above. A bit like this (only it would be MUCH tidier if it was mine Seriously - where's the Tupperware? ) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Help me design my pantry.... 16Jun 19, 2010 2:06 pm Ah yes...getting there!! Thanks. Although would have one open shelf on the bottom for big things - but the drawers are definately what I'm thinking..along with the open drawers for vegies. Appliance shelf tick, and up top very similar to what I was thinking but maybe have one more open shelves for the tupperware, and a couple of narrower shelves for chopping boards and trays... Wish I was artistic and could draw what I was thinking...but that is looking closer and closer... My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. Can't wait to use it!! The shelves above are 350mm, benchtop is 450mm and underbench shelves are 450mm. I've chosen the same tiles as my kitchen splashback to blend it all in. Yeah don't know I thought I was just getting straight shelving but I like this much better. DH said it's been done in "casing" so basically just like kitchen cupboards minus the doors. Basically.
