Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Cancelling My Build! 17Jun 17, 2010 9:46 am get all your paper work together . create a brief diary of events and then get legal advice. if you ahve signed a standard type building contract you probably have to do a mediation process first and go face to face and list your concerns then just negotiate your way out of it. if you are uncomfortable now then imageine what it will be like dealing with this builder for the duration of the project. all agreements are about trust - if that is shot before you start then its probabaly cheaper to get out now. find an expereinced ex builder or project manager to help you through the practical side of the process some lawyers arnt too practical and go to legal. still need the advice howver it is the negoatiation process which will determine how you get out of it. I love this process finding a way of creating win win when it seems no one is going to win. Re: Cancelling My Build! 18Jun 17, 2010 8:27 pm When you say, you signed the final contract, how did you do it? In order to do this, you need to sign on every page of the plan... did you do this? and did this plan have all your changes? If you signed on something that didnt have all the changes you required, then you will get no where. If you did sign the plans which had all things you claim, then you will have a good case against the builder. The sales guys often are contracted by the builder and say things that sometimes might not be true. Is is your responsibility to make sure everything you want is in the plan, before you sign on it and the HIA contract.
