Will the builder be able to fix it? Please give me some comments. I am worried the builder would say it is normal and not going to fix it... I wouldnt worry about the gap, It has no structual bearing at all on that wall. All they will do is put urethane to fill the gap. hope this helps. If you want a job done properly... Do it yourself! Re: Big gap above the rear door in garage 6Jun 14, 2010 9:51 pm It looks as though it could be an articulation (or expansion) join. Check your plans and see if A/J is marked on them in that position. If it is, it should be filled with a coloured putty/silicone to match the bricks, but I'd be checking with your SS anyway....for piece of mind! I'm sure there are 'tolerances' for maximum widths of A/J's, but best to check with your builder/SS, to see if it's OK and 'acceptable' Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! I just checked on my floor plan and found that the gap for A/J should be 10mm. Metricon Amira Re: Big gap above the rear door in garage 10Jun 19, 2010 2:31 pm I have been told by the building manager that it is an articulation join and it will be filled as stormy said.... By the way, our site supervisor has resigned and the new one will be replaced from next Monday.....hope it can go smooth.... Metricon Amira Re: Big gap above the rear door in garage 11Jun 19, 2010 3:33 pm I'd be measuring the gap at top and bottom to make sure it's within tolerances. Some brickies add the foam strips as they brick, but others don't and it gets shoved in at the end. Either is apparently fine (I looked it up when our brickwork was done). Then the goopey stuff goes in.... so the method isn't a problem, but the quality of the brickwork might be a whole other thing. One of our AJs was appalling - definitely NOT within tolerances: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The bricks around it had to be ripped down and redone weeks later, so it certainly can be done if the gap is outside normal tolerances. You can't tell the difference between the old and new brickwork now either. Hi All, see above image.
