Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2010 7:01 pm Hi everyone, I am buying a small piece of land in the country and am looking to build a home on it. This will be my first home and il be straight up honest I have no idea whats involved in building a home, so that's why I came here to read and learn and to ask those who have already done so I am looking into kit homes from Oz kit home, they have some wonderful open floor plan designs that I really like. and I have linked the one I would like to buy below. My main question is, does anyone know roughly how much these kits cost to be put together? I'm guessing it costs probably as much or more then the kit price to have it turn key ready to go? I know there are endless upgrades and such, but I would just like a ball park figure of the cost if you where to just pay someone to do all the work with no upgrades. Thank you for your time guys. We were told by the kit home company that we bought from that it would be roughly double (a little less than double because we had steel and that increased the initial cost of the kit). It is going to cost us a lot more than that in the end but there a number of factors that contribute to that. We live in Far North Qld and suppliers regularly use that to slap on extra charges and freight (even though a lot of stuff is manufactured locally) plus we only got the kit to lock-up as we wanted higher grade inclusions eg granite benchtops, grid-connect solar, heritage style decorative tiles and archways etc. I am basically acting as the project manager and paying people to do the work. The more you do the less it will cost. There are some other threads on here that discuss having a cost estimation done (I wish I knew of these before I started as I am still regularly updating my projected costs as we go) so that would be a valuable spend ( I think they mentioned it cost $300-600 to have someone cost your build). very worthwhile money in my opinion.
