Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2010 9:45 am Has anyone constructed a retaining wall on their side of the boundary over one metre high outside the building envelope? Having so much trouble getting clear answers from the council as to whether it is allowed. We're aware we need a building permit but no one can seem to tell us if a retaining wall can be built outside the building envelope. I'm assuming it is okay because I've seen some in our estate although I'm not sure of the envelope on their blocks. I'm guessing it all depends on the estate as well?? I'll be pushing it more with the council but thought I'd check here as well. Building the house has been fine, it's the retaining walls that stress me out. Ah the joys of building...haha. Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: Whittlesea Council - Building Envelope - Retaining walls 2Jun 14, 2010 10:01 am My guess is that it's fine to build a retaining wall outside of the building envelope. It's a part of landscaping... surely you're allowed to landscape you're entire block...? That's my guess Re: Whittlesea Council - Building Envelope - Retaining walls 3Jun 14, 2010 10:09 am Yeah that's what I reckon too Erin. A lady at Planning told us the same thing but I need to know for sure. Guessing another trip to the offices and maybe something in writing or sight some rules or something. The retaining wall company has been doing all the permits and am waiting to hear back from them (waiting all weekend is killing me haha). Apparently someone at the council told them that they were not sure if it could be built. No one bloody knows. Building is fun At least our kitchen cupboards are in Life is; then you tell yourself a story. They also said that I could put a reataining wall anywhere it was required. As ours is in the very back corner because we have a pit in our 3m x 3m easement that when the block was cut and filled we couldn't fill over. So i would say by that you should be fine. I found the best way to get answers with the council was going in. 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen!
