Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 11, 2010 6:19 pm Hi All I am trying to "guesstimate" how much it will cost me to independantly have my own floor tiles laid. So I am thinking all I have to do is find out the cost of the tile and calcualte the total area. But then I learnt that the tiler charges $40-$50/m2 to lay them. Does this mean that if my tile costs $40 I shouold be calcualting the total area by $80? When I calculate it that way the cost works out to be far higher than what the builder quoted (which is very rare - hahaha!) Anyone out there offer any advice or share their experiences? Re: floor tile costs 2Jun 11, 2010 8:01 pm If the builder has this as a prime cost, and hasn't fixed it, I'd be very wary of what they've quoted. Ours originally told us $7000 to tile the house, and then once we'd chosen the tile (from their basic range, nothing fancy), they came back with $10,500. Massive difference. Yeah you do need to add the cost of laying and the cost of tiles together, plus if it's not included in the cost of laying, you'll need to add on the glue, silicone, grout, and whatever other stuff they use to lay it. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: floor tile costs 3Jun 11, 2010 11:16 pm We were told that a basic rule of thumb is to take the cost of your tiles and double it. Price also goes up according to tile size, and rectified is more expensive than cushion edge. Hope that helps!
