Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Any experiences with Firstyle homes 203Apr 14, 2016 9:27 am Hi Everyone, We are building with Firstyle homes and was after some advice. We have just submitted our final plans and building contract (that was a very long process due to incorrect documents - But all solved now) We will be due for our colour selection appointment soon and plans lodged for approval after this. What was the colour appointment like? Is there a lot of choice in the standard range? Also, how long did the CDC take to commence construction? What was the colour appointment like? Is there a lot of choice in the standard range? Also, how long did the CDC take to commence construction? Hi Madzzie, The colour appointment took us by surprise. We we were given the heads up about selecting a couple if items ie. carpets and bench top, but spent no time thinking about the other items! ie. door handles, architraves, shower heads, cupboard panels, garage door, front door, gutters, window frames etc. If you're going to do some research before hand, make sure you look at all of that, otherwise you'll have to make your mind up on the spot. There is a bit of choice in the standard range, but not a great deal. For most items you'll have a pick between 2-3 items in the standard range. We ended upgrading about 3 items, but tried to limit it due to the cost. The CDC took around 8 weeks for us. For everyone else in our development, it took more like 5-6, but Sydney Water wanted more information on our plans, so they had to go back to an engineer. Mick Thanks Mick, We were actually given a brochure from Firstyle when we signed our tender that has pictures of the door handles etc in there. It's more tile colours/kitchen cabinets that we have absolutely no idea will be on offer. We were hoping to go in and make it a relatively quick appointment but I think it might take a lot longer. Hopefully we get notification soon on when we can go. We really want to be in our house by Christmas but it's not looking likely It has taken 4 months since original tender to get all of the paperwork correct. Feels like such wasted time!!! Re: Any experiences with Firstyle homes 207May 13, 2016 3:44 pm mickm Our construction has started! Congrats Mick. We have started and in progress of getting the roof done. It has been about 2 weeks without progress... Hope they are starting soon. I would like to have no/little delay in PCI. I am reading a lot of builder are taking about 4 to 5 weeks to complete. Mine has run from end of April and now still waiting for them to complete bottom roof. They advised me it scheduled for mid of June... My PCI schedule on end of July/mid Aug. From the look of this, it is just a dream. I am calculating if the bottom roof to be complete mid of June, potentially the whole progress will officially complete end of June or mid July. Still have tender and electrical rough in after bottom roof... Omg it will be 12 weeks roof stage! They put the whole roof together in a day, minus the ridge capping. I think next for yours will be lock up! Gee you are very ahead... Who is your site supervisor? I am still waiting my bottom roof to be completed since 3 weeks ago!!! I am not quite impressed as it is very way behind from schedule. It is supposed to due to hand over next month or August. I think it is just a dream. Lots of follow up need to be done... and i think i found a brick defect too!! Promise only promise by them, they said it will be on Monday then Thursday then Friday then a week after, then it rain, then nothing and then probably next year!. That's how frustrate i am. We are in roof progress from end of april and now almost end of June. Hope they have a good quality of workmanship with this snail speed. Funnily, another double storage homes built by Fowler home, that started later than mine (March), and they are about to enter Roof stage now.. Oh my goodness, I feel just hitting my head to the brick wall.
