Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 16, 2007 2:34 pm Ok, So one of our main complain is the mortar on the house. Its cracked in most places. Looks horrible, has gaps and looks dirty (espacialy where they tried to patch it up.
I would like to know what other think of this. H*nl*y have said that it is fine and nothing wrong with it. Regardless if nothing is wrong with it, we think it looks disgusting. Re: Opinion Needed on Poor Mortar Work 4Oct 16, 2007 2:47 pm Try this........

I doubt there is anything else. Currently Building in Bayside (Brighton East) Re: Opinion Needed on Poor Mortar Work 6Oct 16, 2007 3:05 pm http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i244/ ... use011.jpg

Personally I would not accept that. The issue is that there is some that is messy, and some that could be due to house movement. Adrian B Re: Opinion Needed on Poor Mortar Work 8Oct 16, 2007 3:11 pm Hi French Gal,
I had a similar problem, but far worse than that. They can try to repatch the mortar however, i bet they wont get the right mortar colour back. You probably have good case to get your house fully rendered if it happens throughout the entire building. Also they stuffed the mortar colour and gave us a credit. But im still not happy. Re: Opinion Needed on Poor Mortar Work 11Oct 16, 2007 3:15 pm Personally if they do that bad a job with the mortar I wouldn't dare let them near my house with render. Keep posting photo's in here and in the eye of anyone who intends to build with them. Maybe that will get their attention. Fi has moved in!! Re: Opinion Needed on Poor Mortar Work 13Oct 16, 2007 3:23 pm Looks to me like a 5 year old mixed the barrow of sand and concrete!
It’s a pretty bad batch………will your house stay standing???? Ask the onsite inspector that! Of course your house will stay standing! But is a shotty job! Actualy P platers did it, there was not a person over the age of i would say 23 when they were doing it. The Guy we had (Micheal) Said there was nothing wrong with it, and he will get the bigger areas patched. Last time they patched it, the colour nowhere near matched. Re: Opinion Needed on Poor Mortar Work 15Oct 16, 2007 3:38 pm My guess is……there were fags hanging out the mouth, and food being stuffed into their mouths while mixing the concrete…….
The actual application isn’t the problem……is how it has been mixed and at what proportion. Bit like trying to mix a Sponge Cake right……too much flour, falls in the centre. Not enough……ooze ……… Not sure which way this went, it has dried to fast hence the cracking, and I’d say not enough concrete in the mix! But hey……what would I know, I’m only a female. Im not happy with how it looks, but is that enought? and will it get worse over time? Re: Opinion Needed on Poor Mortar Work 19Oct 16, 2007 4:58 pm Get a building inspector. They can look at it and give a written report on whether it is acceptabel or not. If there is a problem, they can quote the relavent BCA or Australian Standard so there is no chance of ambiguity.
