Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 08, 2010 9:22 pm Hi everyone, So I have heard via here and a few blogs that there is currently a brick layer shortage. Was wondering if you had/ are affected from it and how long you have had to wait? And What builders you are with?? Just curious to see how wide spread it is. Cheers Kridge Re: Brickie Shortage.....does it affect you?? 4Jun 09, 2010 9:10 am We are building with EB and were first told that there would be a wait for brickies on April 30th. Latest update is that it will be about 1-2 weeks after the rain stops (which happened on the weekend) until we get brickies on site. HOPEFULLY, this means we could start bricking towards the end of next week if this weather holds out. Edit: Forgot to say we are building in Sydney Re: Brickie Shortage.....does it affect you?? 5Jun 10, 2010 9:50 pm Wow you have been waiting forever!! I hope they start for you soon. We have just finished roof tiles. I know of about 3 house than need bricks before me so we will be waiting for ages!! Stupid brickies! I Think that they must all be doing the bricks on the schools building projects and getting paid heaps!! Fingers crossed we alll don't have to wait too long!! Re: Brickie Shortage.....does it affect you?? 6Jun 11, 2010 10:05 am We had a shortage of brickies in the northern suburbs of Melb... our builder worked around this by using brickies from the SE suburbs... it was about a 3 hour round trip for the brickies who worked on our house, but I'm glad they did it, the job is great Re: Brickie Shortage.....does it affect you?? 7Jun 11, 2010 10:17 am I'm glad I stumbled onto this thread. This may explain why I have been waiting for anything to happen on our site. We had bricks delivered almost 2 months ago and nothing has happened. We are building in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne with Romeo Homes. All up our brickie would be spending a month on our house.... Ours is that they only do about 2-3 hours a work a day.... Not sure if they have another job to go to or not. Up the top from us, same builder there slab was started after ours and they are all done..... Re: Brickie Shortage.....does it affect you?? 10Jun 21, 2010 11:41 am Our SS said that we should get a brickie onsite Wed/Thur this week, and that he had been waiting for this 'good' brickie (he better be good, we've been waiting long enough....), he's finishing off a job on a double storey down the road and will then come down to our site. We did a drive by yesterday, and worked out which guy it was, and from the street it seems like he has been doing a good job, so hopefully our job will be good too.
