Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 08, 2010 12:37 pm Hi Guys We were supose to have handover today but it was a no go not because of AVJ because our bank is still waiting for the intrim occupancy cert, Anyway we still did another walk through with our SS who I must say is the best, Well we got to check the carpet out today and it looks fab but I have 1 major concern in the formal living area that there are in total 4 joins in it. I new we would have 1 but then the bit they added was in 3 pieces My SS rang the carpet mob n they said it is within the Australian standards and that they are aloud to have 4 joins per room to use up the roll of carpet is this correct???? Any body know????? Thanx Purchased land:08/08 Tender signed : 07/09 Approval from bank: 07/05/09 Contracts signed -09/09 House plan:Willowbrook 290 AVJ http://steevie-lee.blogspot.com Re: CARPET!!!!! How many joins are aloud per room? 2Jun 08, 2010 12:56 pm Standards are one thing, and quality of work is another. 3 joins when it could have been done with 1 sounds like poor quality work to me. I bet they would never have done that if it was their own house. How many joins are aloud per room? 6Jun 08, 2010 1:23 pm Carpet is 3.6 metres wide so in large areas you will need a join. The most economical way to lay carpet is not always the best. Sound like the carpet company went for the most economical way. How many joins are aloud per room? 8Jun 08, 2010 1:35 pm The standard width for carpet in Australia is 3.66 metres; however, some styles of carpet can be produced in widths of 4 metres. The reason for this width measurement is that the machines used to produce carpet are constructed to allow 12 feet (or 3.66 metres) of carpet to be manufactured. There are only a limited number of machines in Australia that are capable of producing 4 metre width carpet. Re: CARPET!!!!! I couldn't agree more ... we just had our carpets laid this morning and was told that there would have to be one join but if there is, I can't see it Maybe once you have furniture in you won't notice it so much I noticed the carpet in our lounge room is not exactly straight, it has a pattern so you can tell its slightly off, no one else will notice but it's just one of those things that will bug me. I hope they can fix it for you somehow ... Re: CARPET!!!!! How many joins are aloud per room? 11Jun 08, 2010 2:45 pm borg so it had carpet. Doesn't matter if it was standard or not it was an option. How many joins did that have. This is a good avenue to take if all else fails. None as far as I know Ill duck out the display home this week n check. I just rang the Australian Standards Association and they are ringing me back. They did mention something about the Albatrasion Association ????? Not sure what that is I think its like a little court case thing LOL Purchased land:08/08 Tender signed : 07/09 Approval from bank: 07/05/09 Contracts signed -09/09 House plan:Willowbrook 290 AVJ http://steevie-lee.blogspot.com Re: CARPET!!!!! How many joins are aloud per room? 13Jun 08, 2010 5:58 pm Have you got pics? I cant say i've ever noticed joins in carpet, maybe the type of carpet your using shows it up more than others. Re: CARPET!!!!! How many joins are aloud per room? 14Jun 10, 2010 8:32 am No sorry InPakenham I dont have a pic of the joins. The Australian Standards mob rang me back aswell as emailed me some info on cross joins and it looks like Ill have to live with the joins for now Although it goes both ways we should have told them we didnt want joins and they should of informed us about the joins. Maybe as some body said they should subside after more vacuuming and once we get the furniture in it wont be so noticeable.
