Please let me know if you still can not PM Re: SunshineT's Build: Garden pics 4432Nov 10, 2013 4:54 pm Hi guys - It's been so long since i have been on the forum that I almost couldn't remember my password logging in! And to think back when I lived in here 10 times a day!! Tiny updates - garden going beautifully. The upside down dead spider (aka dehydrated birds nest fern) has miraculously recovered and the whole garden is doing amazingly well. About to start thinking about the second drive - pavers or concrete We have two Tuscan style pots there with lemon and lime tree, so I am liking the potential mediteranean theme... The lack of rain these past months has been hard, but I always think on the positive for my friends around the corner who are in the middle of building ... Jack, the cabinet maker, never followed up to do the cabinets for us (we got and agreed to a quote of $1900). DH even went to his office to try to confirm a time but no luck. So yesterday we met another cabinet maker (who had just met with our friends to quote for their kitchen). Fingers crossed his price is OK and he can do the job... Otherwise I can see it is something that we might never get on to. Like colouring the grout lines in the bathroom. We have the grout colour but just haven't done the task. Here is a list of things we want to do, one day ... - paint bathroom floor grout lines (charcoal in ensuite, smokey grey in kids bathroom), then seal them - seal the porous tiles in kids bathroom - re-apply the lacquer or oil whatever it was to the external stairs (I think it was supposed to be 3 coats but the painter only did one. We have half a tin in the garage) - patch up a few paint jobs - cracks in cornices (which came on quite quickly these past 2 months during the dry spell), marks on walls and sliders (somehow I think this might not be seen to for years... ) - finish painting 60sqm of balcony ceiling left undone from leak repair (builder no longer around ) - design and get in landscapers or driveway guys to do the second driveway (main major job outstanding) - paint (or whatever the substance is) our main driveway with a dark grey (I saw a friends house up at Lennox recently where they had painted their drive and it looked fabulous) - put pavers or tambark or something around the clothes line area. In fact, fix up the whole western side of the house with tambark or something. I suspect this might not happen for many years. - do something about the horrendous weeds growing on the south of the garage in full sight of the street - small job: transplant the lime tree (so it joins the other one down near DH's veggie patch near the second drive) and plant either Star Jasmine or White Cascade bouganvillea in a pot on our balcony. Primary reason is to block view of the neighbours roof. - do the storage cupboards in the garage (the cabinet maker yesterday came and had a look and waiting on quote. But I expect it will be too high as he was insisting on all sorts of fancy things that I seriously don't care for in the garage). - fill the hole in the bricks where plumber started to drill a hole for the gas meter, which I miraculously caught in time so he could re-position it on the south of the garage with everything else. We were left with a circular hole in our bricks which was on my list of fix it jobs even before hand-over, but somehow I completely overlooked it. I only noticed it last week when I was showing my friend where the plumbers almost put our gas meter. I wonder if the hole will mean insects and other nasties can move in to wall cavity and cause havoc??? - fix the busted blind in Great Room (which I suspect my mother buggered but she denies even to this day! ) So ... other than the tedious list above, we are extremely happy still and very grateful for our home. Another stressful process... Mclaren Hi T, you've done a great job in such short space of time ... I can remember the "bones" of your garden and to see it now ... wow!!! Congrats on the tree out front too!! thanks Annette. Yes, it is hard to believe how it has transformed from the building site bones to what it is now. The tree out front is growing well, but has a few yellow leaves, so I am researching banksias and yellow leaves. Iron deficiency I think. Oh the gardening maintenance! Off to Europe in 2 weeks, ( thanksgiving day, not that we celebrate it, but maybe I will from now on!) Going to Japan for a night first to see the big temple near narita. Then all over the place....even managed a cruise around the med for 7 nights . $400 each, gotta do it. So will catch up with you next year sometime I hope when I am next over. Good luck with the jobs. Re: SunshineT's Build: Garden pics 4435Nov 11, 2013 1:56 pm Great to get another update T We have yet to finish sorting out the drainage. We are hoping to get a plumber here for a rough quote on agi pipe this week. I just want an idea on price, I know DH can do it, but it will take him soooooo long, and if it comes in under $2k I would rather pay a plumber to do it in a few days then have DH waste several weeks doing it without the right equipment and everything.... With your list of tasks - I wonder if your walls look as terrible as mine, my kids are so rough. I've just sat down from wiping down the walls and doors and am quite sad at the marks not coming out. My youngest keeps drawing on my walls too Grrr think we will have to sugar soap the whole place what a nightmare!! Re: SunshineT's Build: Garden pics 4436Nov 11, 2013 2:14 pm greenfish My youngest keeps drawing on my walls too Grrr think we will have to sugar soap the whole place what a nightmare!! Tie his hands behind his back Great update T - good to hear there's nothing too major and you're enjoying your special place. There are some jobs that unless you make a special effort never get done but hey we can all live with that and not be so hard on ourselves. I think we've all done a fantastic job when you think about all the trials and tribulations over our various building projects ..
