Re: SunshineT's Build: we've been SLABBED! 1122Mar 07, 2012 10:33 am Well, I am looking forward to getting a group shot at my site to put up here! Fingers crossed we have some frames up before Sunday. They are heaps of frames, beams, trusses on site, weather is fine out here today (surprisingly). Termite guy came this morning to put the blue plastic skirts around the slab. (All these little steps I had no idea about). Feeling very reassured about all the drainage stuff. We have 5 or more pits around our site (whereas our dumb wit hydraulics engineer with Masterton only had one useless pit in the plans). So more changes on site based on Deeb and Andrew's assessment. We haven't been charged for all the extra pits, nor the huge grate that is going to go in front of our porch. Which is great, coz I remember Masterton charged $450 per pit!!! I shudder to think where our budget would be if we had stayed with them... a mate around the corner is building with Tullipan and she has had a lot of site variations (including DEB costs) close to $10K on top. It has been bucketting down in Newcastle for the past 12 hours. Absolutely drenching down. Very noisy in fact. 2010, June : Land bought (1700sqm, battleaxe block). That's it so far! It has been bucketting down in Newcastle for the past 12 hours. Absolutely drenching down. Very noisy in fact. but like gogo said, it is more difficult to stomach when it is great weather but NO work gets done!!! Today absolutely not a drop of rain (where we are) and only the termite skirts were put on, by 8am even (which could have happened yesterday arvo as the plumbing was finished by lunch)... Clearly I am getting impatient when I really shouldn't be. I just want to see those damn frames up!!! I rang from work so he couldn't recognise the phone number. He wasn't denying liability. But he did a big sob story (which I think is actually true) about how slow work has been with the rain and financial situation that the company is in trading difficulty. He said 6 - 8 weeks they hope to be better, they are paying little bits of pieces to creditors where they can to stay afloat... yaddah yaddah... He said all the right things - like he wants to do right by us, he agrees he owes us, he feels bad for us (yeah, right!). But at least he wasn't nasty and he isn't denying liability. I think there really is a difficulty there in paying. But I said I am not giving up. I said I will write him a formal letter and we will take it from there. Each little step I take I am feeling better about it all (even if I let it go, at least I gave it my best shot). So I will send the letter when I am ready, then chase again. He acknowledged that the best outcome will be for his company to be able to make some contribution and I said yep, that was all I was asking for, to avoid further cost and headache if I take the other path. So that's that. Will leave it now for another month or so. Phew. As for site progress - holy moly talk about rain storm today!!!!! Builder sent me an sms saying they will be on site tomorrow and maybe Saturday, so here is hoping we see some frames up before Sunday!! Re: SunshineT's Build: we've been SLABBED! 1131Mar 08, 2012 3:43 pm Well done on calling Mr S Demo guy, Sunshine....I bet your heart was pounding during the call, I know mine does when I have to make nerve-wracking calls I suggest also, next time you speak to him, see if you can slip a voice recorder under the phone/loudspeaker to have a record of him saying out loud that he is accepting liability, etc. I'm obviously a doubtful person, but it's always better to be safe than sorry...just in case! He seems to be coming along, despite his sob stories, so hopefully that drama will end soon! In WA, the sun won't STOP shining...am trying to send some your way but doesn't seem to be working. I will keep trying through! Re: SunshineT's Build: we've been SLABBED! 1134Mar 09, 2012 10:05 am omg omg omg OMG!!!! The frames are going up as we speak!!! eek!!
