Browse Forums Building A New House Re: SunshineT's Build: opinions pls on niche tile??? 2801Jul 23, 2012 9:47 pm Hi Sunshine - the bathroom is looking awesome. Im like you - not a big fan of cleaning grout either =) Your idea of the granite tiles is an excellant idea - brings across continuity of your style/effects =) Re: SunshineT's Build: opinions pls on niche tile??? 2802Jul 25, 2012 11:47 am Could it be true???? Just got an sms from Andrew that the window glass is on the truck, loaded, and 20 mins from our site!!!! This was after another pathetic excuse from window company yesterday that the guy who loads the truck was sick, so no windows yesterday at all. I was gutted this morning when I drove past the site to see no windows still... So I am perked up by the news. Andrew has sent me several smses this morning updating me (first one was that the glass was finally loaded on the truck, then about to leave, then on it's way - he has been hounding the window guy, Sam, and passing all the updates on to me). So a little too nervous to believe it could really be happening!! Phew. I bet they only deliver half. Or I bet some of them are wrong. Feeling sceptical... Thanks Thailian and purplefish for your comments too... Tiling is progressing slowly (still one man band), and he hasn't done THE feature niche that I changed last minute, but here is hoping today has some good news on a few fronts.... Re: SunshineT's Build: are windows REALLY on their way??? 2806Jul 25, 2012 12:16 pm Oh wow, those granite tiles are amazing!! They will make a fantastic neice feature and it will tie all the rooms together! Good thinking! Yay for windows coming! Re: SunshineT's Build: are windows REALLY on their way??? 2807Jul 25, 2012 12:20 pm I've got my legs crossed too-but that's mainly because this flu is making me cough nonstop! Re: SunshineT's Build: are windows REALLY on their way??? 2809Jul 25, 2012 6:30 pm Thanks so much Annette, Dee, nina, alto, trees, and kiwi! VERY relieved to say we have windows!!! Feels like a real house now. Not all glazing, about 70%, and no locks yet... but fingers crossed that happens tomorrow. I was also pleased to see that we didn't have any of those patterns across the middle of glass on the sliding doors, which I am assuming is because it is toughened glass (4mm). I wasn't very excited about the bubbly glass on the bathroom windows (as I was hoping to keep them clear, which is why I placed them high so you couldn't see in). It means less light gets in, but DH is happy as he prefers the bubbly glass for privacy (again, it is his height thing I think!). And some more good news - the tiler did the feature niche in the bathroom exactly how I asked! I only got there when it was getting dark, so haven't got any photos, but will try to get some on Friday. Tiler is excellent, but progress is still slow as it is just him, and he had to redo about 6 tiles in the corridor because the other younger tilers made some mistakes. Funny, we didn't even notice the mistakes but the supervisor said something about wrong height to meet the bathroom tiles. Slowly, slowly.... That's more like it!!! Things should come together more quickly now. And as for your niches, I'm looking forward to Friday and pics Re: SunshineT's Build: are windows REALLY on their way??? 2811Jul 25, 2012 6:52 pm Oh yay T that is brilliant news! So excited to read you may get windows and you actually did Very good news on the tiles too, great that the supervisor is fussy, no chance of getting sh0ddy workmanship! Like TSC I am REALLY looking forward to your friday pics. It was a great idea you had for the niche. You didn't mention if you were happy with it though??? Re: SunshineT's Build: are windows REALLY on their way??? 2812Jul 25, 2012 7:01 pm Great progress, T!! Would love to see your niches & windows glazing soon.. What kind of balustrade you're getting? Re: SunshineT's Build: are windows REALLY on their way??? 2815Jul 25, 2012 8:18 pm Oh T, that is great news how exciting to see progress finally! Don't be waiting on your window locks though, we finally got ours today We also don't have lines on our stacker door glass, but I'm thinking that you have to have them, so maybe they will go on to get OC Look forward to photos Re: SunshineT's Build: are windows REALLY on their way??? 2816Jul 25, 2012 8:27 pm hey gogo - yeah, it is exactly because I know that you haven't got locks that I am sceptical! I asked the guy about locks twice today when he was on site (for the whole 3 hours they were there - he kept saying what a long time the job would take, but then they didn't even stick around to complete it). So glad you finally got locks though... Interesting about the lines on the doors for OC... trees - aha! another spotted gum fan! Re: SunshineT's Build: are windows REALLY on their way??? 2820Jul 26, 2012 12:57 pm well, well, what do you know... We actually have stairs today too!!! Mat was on site and rang to check whether we wanted square or round poles. I had specified round but dashed to site and checked out the square ones and fine to go with them. Square probably looks better with the handrail, but I confess the real reason I wanted round was for less cleaning!! I am totally imagining grubby little hands on the poles (which is why we went vertical poles instead of horizontal cable), and figured round would be easier to clean than square. Practicality over aesthetics. But we are going with the square ones now anyway - they are on site and not too fussed really. The window company wasn't there today (no surprises in that), but the lone tiler is doing a great job and should be finished the upstairs powder today. Mat gave me a run down of the schedule over the next two weeks, so we are very happy that things really seem to be picking up pace at the moment. Promise some pictures tomorrow!
