Browse Forums Building A New House Re: SunshineT's Build: waiting for front door ... 2581Jul 10, 2012 12:03 pm Gogo, Yes I thought the selections were pretty good. I just had another look at your photos of main floor tiles & I think ours might be the same. I am a bit confused about bathroom selections. Do Zen have some stuff at their office & is that where Dannielle is, if so what is the story with Bath Cartel do they have any standard Zen stuff or just upgrades? Sunshine, well done, what a great find. Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2582Jul 10, 2012 12:31 pm Looks good T, how much is the delivery?? Ryan, not sure what the process is now with Danielle, as far as I know the boys still don't have a display at their office, maybe Danielle is going to meet you at bath cartel. Our tiles are similar to alto ash at Beaumonts if that helps Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2583Jul 10, 2012 12:35 pm Ryan - Danielle is Andrew's sister and works for Zen. As for selections, they have been in a real mess and Andrew said to me this morning that from now on everyone will go through Zen (Danielle) for selections so that no confusion with upgrades. That might mean more limited range, but I think that is better so that clear what is actually in the standard range!! No idea what they have set up, but best you talk to them. I am sure you can still substitute items that you want to source yourself. Good luck! Come back and tell us how the process goes as that might be the new process from now on. gogo - delivery, not sure of exact cost. The lady (Emma) said they have a flat fee (should have asked, doh!), but she did say that usually cheaper just to organise your own courier. For $46 I know that is well within the range (considering the credit is $70!), so Zen can decide what they want to do about delivery. They might even want to look into some more of their products as Bath Cartel is not that cheap I don't think... Anyway, so amazed to have found a lovely oval basin (when 90% of them I saw were round circles). So still may be a $100 extra but still good value Bath cartel is pretty good in comparison to Reece/tradelink etc. Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2585Jul 10, 2012 12:53 pm gogo65 Courier interstate would probably be over $100 plus you need to buy the waste/ plug thing. But still, if $112 is the retail price ($46 x 2 + $10 x 2), that is still cheaper than the $140 credit, and I expect Zen will get cheaper for tradie prices. I did wonder how it could be so cheap... I guess they are a wholesaler. Nothing fancy (ie. no overflow), but I still love the looks of them. She did say "much much cheaper". Not sure how you could on that price. So still may be a $100 extra but still good value I think it depends on the company. I had a kitchen sink sent from Vic to WA and it cost $50 (I added $35 shipping insurance). I looked at the postage rates for a sink from rennovationD (syd) and the shipping quote was around $10 to perth, so it has the potential to be half decent *fingers crossed* Thanks for the link SunshineT, I have sent them a query. I wouldnt mind a $46 basin! Find of the centurary! Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2589Jul 10, 2012 6:01 pm Hi alto. I know, what a remarkable wholesaler! DH and I were talking tonight and wondering what could be wrong for that price?!?! But the pics look super good. And I said that even if something happens down the track, at that price it is not such a hassle to get a replacement. I think maybe because they are a wholesaler and in regional Qld somewhere, they have very good importing links and low overheads. We are just used to such inflated retail prices. I will be VERY interested to see them in real life. And thanks for the heads up on freight - that sounds very reasonable as a package. What are you making an enquiry about? I cannot belive I can buy items in other states and have them shipped here and still make a decent saving! I brought one of these mixers a few weeks ago from another website, Id hate to think how much extra I paid compared to what they are selling it for :/ I am making an inquiry about the same basin as you, its very similar in size to the one that isnt expected to arrive for another 3 months :/ I need a replacement rail shower for our apartment too, so I might see what they have and whether it will fit. Might grab a couple of robe hooks too Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2591Jul 10, 2012 6:54 pm WOW what a find!! Super job T going to look great! Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2592Jul 11, 2012 7:18 pm Anything to share with the masses today T?? Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2593Jul 11, 2012 8:03 pm hi greenfish. Didn't have the greatest day, but you are so loyal so I will fill you in. Warning - not much positive in para ahead so stop reading now if you were wanting good news. So the carpenters didn't turn up this morning for the door. By 8.30am I had to get to work, but luckily my dad is visiting so he minded the kids while I drove to the site. They carpenters were there and said "oh yeah, we forgot about the door!". Just as well my dad was visiting to mind the kids. Nob heads. They picked it up at 9am but when I returned this arvo only the jambs had been attached. One of the carpenters was particularly defensive about all my notes on the doors explaining where they went and that he had put on some of the wrong doors already. Then we had the dreaded conversation about the cavity sliders. In a nutshell: I was very particular about wanting to maximise the door opening space, so the plans had "Flush Jamb" written on it, plus written into the tender and in all my emails. But still the wrong frames had been used (flush pull which is the standard, not flush jamb). To make it flush they said they would needed to pad out the door which would not change the opening space (short version of conversation) so I said leave it as is. Spoke to the builder and he said they could change it and not make the opening smaller, and the end result this afternoon - opening is now smaller, they wasted half a day doing the work, and now there are massive gaps next to the door in the gyprock which needs some serious plaster work. Waste of time and money (for builder, but still waste of money). To top it off (I warned not to keep reading!), they left all their materials, lunch left overs and the 120kg door on the living floor on the screed bed. Extra work for the tilers to have to clean up before laying which is not the tilers fault. As you can imagine, they also made dents in the screed bed. M from Zen and I have exchanged less than friendly communications, so I am in a bit of a tiff with Zen at the moment. It all comes down to communication. The three way communication between me, carpenters and Zen just didn't work today. The carpenters went ahead and did what they told me they would do, which I said I didn't want to happen. M said they would do it one way and they didn't (but I don't think he really understood what it entailed). Just looking forward to tomorrow. But on some good news - I did see our front door out of the box. It looked very very nice, but I will wait for a happier day for some photos. Onwards and upwards. Can't wait to see your door on, photos tomorrow hopefully Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2595Jul 11, 2012 8:10 pm Deemaree Kyndylan Capers: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46852 My blog: http://www.sufficientlysufficient.blogspot.com/ Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2596Jul 11, 2012 8:12 pm Oh T big hugs sweetie. Sounds like a yukky day all round. Sorry to hear that the carpenters were such an uncooperative bunch, very disappointing they went ahead and changed the doorways even after you saying not to. And as for leaving your precious door on the screed bed what a bunch of idiots. Hopefully tomorrow turns good, your door will finally get put on, and maybe even the tilers will show and get started! Don't worry about M from Zen, he will get over it. You need to bring these things to his attention, it's your house and you are paying for it to look how you want, fair enough if you got a little crusty at him, every aspect of your build is important and I understand that and more to the point so should he. Have a glass of wine and a good sleep and tomorrow will be a better day I'm sure Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2597Jul 11, 2012 8:18 pm Deemaree Kyndylan Capers: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46852 My blog: http://www.sufficientlysufficient.blogspot.com/ Re: SunshineT's Build: found THE best bathroom wholesaler... 2598Jul 11, 2012 8:23 pm greenfish - thank you, your post cheered me up. I didn't know whether to post or not, coz I don't like to be too negative. I am not a big wine drinker, but I did indulge in some vanilla icecream and hot chocolate mud cake tonight which made me feel much much better. Thanks again for your kind support... Dee - that sums it up exactly! Thanks for the kitty hug gogo - that's just it isn't it, trying to find that balance between how important the changes are in the scheme of things versus the delay / cost to get them rectified. Plus the 'how much is this going to annoy the boys' factor. The thing is - I said I could live with the way the doors were before. I think what has been most disappointing is the wasted time by everyone, delays this will now cause (carpenters behind on the job plus the plaster work, how ever that works). Really wish they had just left the doors the way they were. Who knows if they will be back tomorrow, not sure what the schedule is. Glazing was due today, again, but surprise surprise no glazing. Promise I will post pics of the door once it is on. It certainly looked when I saw it. Nice to focus on the door, yeah, happy door thoughts. When these kind of disappointing and overwhelming days come about its just awful and we've all experienced them including me.
Tomorrow is a new day and there is nothing that can't be fixed and rectified. Yes it is a waste of time and energy and it may delay by a day or two but it will be ok and you should just look forward to the next milestone and not stew on it too much. Doesn't fix it or make you feel as good as the treats you indulged in today (mouth was drooling as I read chocolate mud cake).
