Browse Forums Building A New House Re: SunshineT's Build: woodwork delivered... 2521Jul 05, 2012 7:42 pm Hi T, saw your post on my thread - yes mine is a trubridge floral. I got it from lumentec.com.au. But I agree with GoGo, don't think yours will date any faster than a trubridge - and with Dee, I think yours goes with your qualia colours.....(and don't think it will be a problem with your spotted gum, particularly if you have grey windows and carpet). Do you have any bannisters near the void? That's why I went white as other woodwork in the vicinity was white. Dh has confessed he wasn't that thrilled with the original pendant I chose (naughty DH just agreeing with whatever until I change my mind then he confesses he is relieved!! ). The other thing he didn't like about the original light is that it is very dim (as the globe is surrounded by a ball). The positive of that is that you don't actually see the globe. But the wonderful thing about the Coral is the pattern it casts on the wall... I am erring towards the David Trubridge Coral... rocketship - thanks for those Ikea links. Unfortunately I think I am getting rather stuck on the Coral look light now... Just checked out the lumentec site nina suggested, and they have the 600mm ones for $400 - $500 (depending on colours etc). The original one I was looking at was 650mm diameter. The Coral is 50% less than the one I was looking at, and that $$ will go well on other things, so I am almost sold now... Gee, talk about flippant with my decisions. thanks everyone for your comments... now just to choose a colour!!! Most likely just the natural bamboo colour me thinks. Will match the floors and stair handrails... nina - did yours come with the hanging bit and fitting too? OK, thanks nina. So you had to buy a ceiling rose on top? I will go have another look at yours to see what you did.... Re: SunshineT's Build: woodwork delivered... 2529Jul 05, 2012 9:49 pm So sorry to change the subject guys, but I just heard some very disturbing news & thought everyone must be warned including you T . A couple who were building their WM home have had a bit of misfortune , WM had done their Plumbing rough in, & when they went down, they got another builder in who is good to finish the build. Anyhow after putting in the insulation & gyprock, another plumber was called in to turn on the water, to their surprise, it turns out that someone sabotaged their pipes by drilling very tiny holes in them, which in turn caused a leak. You can imagine the catastrophe this has caused, & the potential disaster it could have caused had this bnot been discovered before the gas was turned on. As if the fiasco with WM wasn't enough, now they have to rip the gyprock & insulation out so that all the pipe work can be redone. So the moral of the story is take care when building & keep an eye on your property at all times . Re: SunshineT's Build: woodwork delivered... 2530Jul 06, 2012 8:19 am Hi springtime, I got that email too. Absolutely shocking beaviour. Hope all is good with you? Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Re: SunshineT's Build: woodwork delivered... 2531Jul 06, 2012 10:22 am Hi T, I think if you are having any doubts at all about a $950 pendant then yeah definetly look for something else because it should be something you really love and feel excited to be putting into your house. I love the tubridge lights but I am biased as I would like either one of those in white or a shell capize pendant for my entrance. Go the Tubridge T it would look so much nicer I think. Re: SunshineT's Build: woodwork delivered... 2532Jul 06, 2012 10:46 am I echo what everyone is saying. I think the lights are too similar to say one will date and one won't. How can you build a house that won't date anyway? It's impossible, styles and colours will always come and go, no matter how much you try to fight it. Get the light that you and DH like the most is my advice. Re: SunshineT's Build: woodwork delivered... 2533Jul 06, 2012 10:46 am Hey Nina, How are you? Yes , thank god we've finished building, & moved in at Easter. Still bits & pieces to be done, but over all it turned out quite nice, we're very excited about the house. What about you, how's it going with you? I see you & Sunshine T are progressing along? Re: SunshineT's Build: woodwork delivered... 2534Jul 06, 2012 11:37 am springtime - thanks for that note and your PMs. Welcome back. That is a really horrible story, and reflects how when things go wrong people do nasty things. Tash - that is excellent advice. I agree. I was so-so about the original pendant, which is why I didn't want to pay $950. But I feel much better paying $450 for a Trubridge. I would have liked something more organic looking (saw an awesome Mark Tucker one on another thread), but our house is contemporary so need to keep that in mind. Looking at more shops today and on the weekend. kiwi lighter wood...less dust to see. good thinking! less maintenance is my approach to many decisions ... greenfish - thanks. Problem is DH is not really fussed an I am HOPELESS at making decisions! Really love it. Thank you!!! After you mentioned it in an earlier post I tried to find the thread but couldn't, so I appreciate you giving it to me here. It is 130kgs so will need a few strong guys / gals to move it. VERY excited about seeing the door go on... but also don't want it to get ruined by all the other tradies in the next stages... But I guess it has to go on at some stage (we were just trying to stall it as long as possible). So hold tight for the big reveal tomorrow! We haven't even seen it ourselves .... (more house keeping comments from the chick who doesnt do housekeeping!) Re: SunshineT's Build: front door going on! 2539Jul 06, 2012 2:47 pm gogo65 T, besides our tilers no one has even opened the door, everyone accesses the house through the garage so I'm sure it will be fine. Anything else happening?? Let's hope they keep using the garage. We love our garage door, so we have put that up so that it doesn't get ruined. As for stuff happening - at work today so not sure, but the fit out carpenters were there this morning so more of that I assume. Can't wait to have a look tomorrow.... oh yeah, and the gas company called on Wed and sent a guy out to see what needed to be done (not from the builder, but the mains gas. They have to extend the mains to our site). That might be happening in the next week or so. kiwi - good idea, thanks.
