Browse Forums Building A New House Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1201Mar 16, 2012 11:21 am Oh T that would be so annoying if you have lovely weather - I'm annoyed nothing's happening on my site today - and our weather is lousy!! Should clarify - I don't blame the workmen for not being out there in it, just frustrated that nothing is happening!! What is the projected date at the moment for your build to be finished? Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1202Mar 16, 2012 12:44 pm Hi greenfish - I had a look at your blog the other day and love all the environmental elements of your build. This morning when I was soothing my impatience I worked out that from site cut, our build guarantee (25 weeks) take us to 8 August. Then rain days on top of that. If it is from slab, then 17 August. So I really should not complain if the aim is June. Meanwhile... got a desperate call from DH (from work) telling me to get to the site ASAP (we only live 400m away) to help the door delivery guy unload our custom made door. It weighs around 120kgs. But when I got there he was leaving, said he had other deliveries. WTF?! What a waste of time to have to come back on Monday to deliver, when an extra 5 mins waiting for me would have solved it. Maybe he thinks even two of us couldn't lift it? We are very excited about seeing our door. Those who have followed my thread for a while will know that we desperately didn't want to use merbau for our front door (as most doors by Corinthian and Hume use merbau, and merbau is an endangered rainforest timber from Asia). Aaaaaannnyway, we found a lovely little guy from North Coast Doors in Toormina who is custom making a Spotted Gum door, 1000m (just narrow enough so we can have hinges as we didn't want pivot) x 2340mm. We are very excited to see the finished product. And to think it came to site today then drove away. Particularly as it is spectacular weather today and nada is happening... But August is a looonnngg way away. Bet you can't wait to see your front door ... it's very significant in the scheme of things When they lock it you will know you are really on your way!!! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1204Mar 16, 2012 1:12 pm Hi T, I have recently been stalking your thread and I just had to say it is great to see your home starting to take shape (I haven't read all of the thread just some ) but I have to say I am very jealous of your greenery!!! It is the one thing that you don't get with new estates.... it is just glorious!! I look forward to watching.... stalking from now on... Also, I know how annoying it is to go to site in the hope of seeing work only to be disappointed... but I think it has been said on gogo's thread.... it is the FINAL date that matters and it sounds like they are going to fly from now on.... blink and we are going to miss the rest of this build Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1205Mar 16, 2012 1:58 pm Can't wait to see your door, T!! Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1206Mar 16, 2012 5:58 pm I've finally read the rest of your thread, my goodness what a ride so far. You've done so well to keep your sanity. I think I would have given up long before now. Well done. June will be brilliant! Looking forward to seeing pics of your door. I think you've inspired me to make more effort in getting a more 'friendly' door Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1207Mar 16, 2012 7:07 pm greenfish - I would totally recommend it (getting a 'friendly' door). I mean, you have to open it every day. Our door (and frame) only cost $1,500 (we got a $1080 credit for the 1.2m pivot door included in our tender), so for us it is well worth the upgrade. Plus we love supporting small businesses like this guy. (That said, we haven't actually seen the door yet - very frustrating to see it on the back of the freight truck today and then for it to drive off!!!). Monday. Thanks for taking the time to read my thread - that shows patience too! thanks for your posts Annette, willcres and rocketship (you will always remind me of elmo! wiggle). Hopefully when it's delivered on Monday you'll have someone there to put it straight up. Can't wait to see it! Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1209Mar 16, 2012 8:12 pm T, Will the door be OK to put straight up? Will the frame alone by strong enough? what happens if it is exposed to the rain etc?? You are so organised, we still havent decided on a front door Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1211Mar 16, 2012 9:05 pm Oh sshhh Jodge, your being silly jodge Hey gogo. . . will yours be diamond-encrusted SunshineT Meanwhile... I think I need to take some of my own advice (which I gave to gogo) - to just be patient. Today is a cracker of a day but alas no-one on site... T, it is so hard, and we know that we have to patient, but it is damn hard, but then again when somethng happens it gets exciting all over again, I think we are only just starting the ride, another few months of ups, downs, smiles, tears, frustration, elation....bring it on Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1215Mar 16, 2012 9:29 pm SunshineT T, it is so hard, and we know that we have to patient, but it is damn hard, but then again when somethng happens it gets exciting all over again, I think we are only just starting the ride, another few months of ups, downs, smiles, tears, frustration, elation....bring it on It's a roller coaster, isn't it? Yesterday I was upset, now I'm happy again, ...it's testing our emotions.... Not many people are willing to take a risk like this.... But in the end, when the house finished, we have memory of a lifetime in building a house to our kids, grandchildren, friends.... Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1216Mar 17, 2012 10:53 am willcres and gogo - that is it exactly: roller coaster. The key I guess is that it all balances out and that we are happy in the end. Good point jodge about the door. But at over 120kgs, I am not sure it would be an easy pinch. willcres - as for installing it, yeah, I think it is too soon. Andrew said to get it delivered but it seems too early to me. Unless they wanted to check the frames? We had a picnic dinner upstairs last night which was fun. The views are going to be spectacular! And then the heavens opened up and kaboom! Huge rain storm leaving mini lakes all around our site and drenched frames. Poor little things. Must tend to them later. We treat our site a bit like a pet sometimes. Maybe they could check your door with the frames and then you could store it somewhere else until they're ready to use it? I wouldn't want it standing out in the rain. Am I just being too cautious? The house is your baby. . . you're watching it grow up to be an adult!!! Hope you didn't get too wet in the storms last night, was it an amazing view of the night lights of Sydney? Did you take a piccie for us? Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1218Mar 17, 2012 11:18 am Hello T, So happy to see your build is flying..... Your house with a gorgeous district view has contributed to make me attempted to buy our second house with green and view. . So far, I always follow the real estate agent's slogan "worst house in the best street" I red that Zen will build BBQ area for you....Can you share with me your plan for BBQ and outdoor sitting area. Thanks! Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1219Mar 17, 2012 11:42 am kikichan - will post some sketches of patio bench this weekend (we are having a drinkable water tap with sink, electricity point and stone bench, but no BBQ - we will just use our portable gas BBQ). jodge - pics to follow too! I had a few PMs about what sort of upgraded inclusions we are having, so here is the link to page 24 of this thread which has the detailed list: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585&p=756478&hilit=semi+commercial+windows#p756478 SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: SunshineT's Dollshouse: frames going up, up, up ... 1220Mar 17, 2012 8:39 pm kikichan I red that Zen will build BBQ area for you....Can you share with me your plan for BBQ and outdoor sitting area. Thanks! This is for you kikichan. The outdoor kitchen bench will be on the downstairs patio (so where our lawn etc. is). It will have a drinkable water tap and electricity point, but no BBQ inset. (DH wants the flexibility of the portable BBQ with gas bottles). We will have a bar fridge just inside the store room (which is at the back of our downstairs living room, which flows off the patio), so we have access to downstairs meal preparation. We wanted to do all this as our kitchen and living is upstairs, but for parties (I know what you are thinking jodge!), breakfasts, family meals with the kids etc. we want to be able to eat downstairs too. Here is DH's google sketch-up: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Zen are doing the bricking for the 3 walls, plumbing, sink and tap (a little freebie thrown into our tender at the end for no charge), but we have to pay for the cabinets and stone bench. We have pricing from Ikea (so we are getting the dimensions done to allow for Ikea products) but will get a direct quote from the Zen kitchen guy. Our preference will be for the kitchen guy to do everything, but we want the option to go to Ikea if the quote is too expensive. So we are allowing for both options in the design. Hope that helps!
