Ditto as above - once it is cleaned (and grouted) will be exciting... Dreamer Looking amazing! Love the stair balustrade. Thanks Dreamer. Yeah, the spotted gum railing and trims on the staircase matches perfectly with the front door, so we are happy too. Mclaren Stunning is just not good enough .... Feeling like a broken record... Thanks Annette!! Things are picking up pace now... Ryan 1977 T, the windows in your bathrooms appear to be clear glass in the photos, is this the bubble glass you mentioned? Ryan - I don't think I have any pics of the bubbly glass. In the photos there are actually no windows still in the bathrooms. The only one with windows is the main bathroom and I didn't take any photos. I prefer clear, but I see now that the bubbly stuff is good for privacy. Meanwhile... we spent time today trying to finalise lights (very close). Bought a few and the one we chose for the bathrooms was a no-go, so always good to see these items in the actual room. But big learning curve was the blinds. We were hoping to get at least a few off the rack blinds (decided on holland) for some rooms. We will have drapes in carpeted rooms (like bedrooms, and we already have some from our old house). But anyway, you guys probably already know this but we didn't realised you can't buy any 2400 drop off-the racks. We have 4 sliding doors (totalling 15m) all at 2400 high, which means lots of custom mades... plus the other blinds in the kitchen and stairwell... Oh, we also bought one blind thinking we could use it, coloured 'Stone' but when we took it into the room it was waaaaayyy too red / brown in colour. So again, good to test it in the real setting. We were thinking white would get grotty quickly (with kids), but that may be our only option... Looks like I will have to research window dressings too... Any recommendation for good blind companies in Sydney? Freaking out a bit at how much it will all cost... Yet to decide what to use on the sliding doors. Jo has suggested I look at the "Sheer Elegance" range as well as other blind options & has suggested it is better to see all options in person rather than on the web...just have not had time to do this yet. They also supply blinds & curtains too. Husband & wife team....will come to you as most do. They get most of their work via word of mouth. MHC Re: SunshineT's Build: window dressings freaking me out 2915Jul 29, 2012 10:07 am T, together an idea of price, go online to a few of the online companies, they give you an instant quote, I think you'll find the custom blinds aren't to expensive. As you know we are getting our blinds through our neighbor, Vess has done a fair bit of research and got some quotes, so might be able to help. Nina chose accent I think, she was also very happy with the price etc. I can pm you Scott's details, although I have given him the go ahead to do my blinds I don't have any prices, so can't give you an indication of cost. We are going white blinds everywhere, white sunscreen in the back living area, including the stacker door, the fabric seems like it will be easy to clean. In the bedrooms and front living we are doing a charcoal grey sunscreen and a white blockout, so it looks consistent from the street, I'm one for everything looking the same from the front. You can have a look at mine when I get them. Re: SunshineT's Build: window dressings freaking me out 2916Jul 29, 2012 12:16 pm I used old bed sheets. The master bed looked especially stylish with pink roses and a big hole in the middle. The guest room's didn't quite fit the window, but that didn't bother us, as we didn't have to sleep in there. Re: SunshineT's Build: window dressings freaking me out 2917Jul 29, 2012 12:24 pm What have you got now jodge? I need inspiration! Have been trying to find a thread on here with photos of window dressings, found a few but need more. I have a ton of magazines for kitchens etc but windows don't feature big in these. Blinds & plantation shutters seem to be the trend. I am concerned about losing heat, quite high & cold where we are building & also keeping the heat out on western wall in summer, lots of glass there that is our view of National Park. Re: SunshineT's Build: window dressings freaking me out 2918Jul 29, 2012 12:45 pm Bed sheets Ryan! Haha, we went mainly for white plastic venetians, as they were cheapo (we have 11 of the same window across the front of the house, just couldn't afford shutters). If I were you I'd be doubling up with some nice thick curtains, with pelmets. . . Unless you really don't like the look. If you or dh are a bit handy, you can make your own curtains and pelmets, then there's a much bigger range of fabrics available. You can go crazy! Do you have foxtel? I love 'Sarah's House'. . . It's a renovation program. Canadian chick that LOVES her soft furnishings and up-cycling old furniture. Some of the stuff is a bit twee, but some of it has so much character. . . Sorry, off on a tangent. Re: SunshineT's Build: window dressings freaking me out 2919Jul 29, 2012 1:00 pm Jodge, Have you got photos of your rooms with white venetians? This look is a bit like plantation shutters on a budget, I think it is a nice look but worry that they would not have the thermal properties I am after. I sew, have always made my own curtains, though not sure about taking on pelmets. I wondered if curtains & pelmets were a bit old fashioned for my nice new house, I will be having curtains upstairs in all the bedrooms... Ah but then I worry about the front bedroom, I wanted the front windows to look the same from outside. I don't have foxtel I thought you didn't either, weren't you worried DH would watch even more sport? Re: SunshineT's Build: window dressings freaking me out 2920Jul 29, 2012 1:24 pm Ryan, if I took away his foxtel, he'd die. You could do venetians AND curtains. Then it would look the same on the outside and you'd have the double insulation. Maybe just add the curtains in winter if it proves to be too cold. Pelmets would be pretty easy I think, knock together a frame and staple on some wadding and fabric, stick it on the wall. If you can sew curtains, you can make a pelmet, for sure. I wonder if I can find any images of modern-looking curtains. Hmmmm Here's one I have of the venetians: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ok, I just googled "contemporary curtain pelmet" and the results were no good. . . But I did see some pics of roller blinds with pelmets. Maybe you could do a Venetian inside the window, then a roller blind with pelmet on the outside?
