Re: SunshineT's Build: no hot water :( 3636Sep 06, 2012 8:53 am Sorry to hear about the hot water, T....I can imagine how hard it is... But hang in there, I'm sure you'll be fine by this week. just like nina said, boil some water for the kids. We used to do that back in my country... Re: SunshineT's Build: we have HOT WATER!!! happy happy 3638Sep 06, 2012 11:12 am I can't tell you all how excited I am to announce that WE HAVE HOT WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never been so grateful for a hot shower!!! (Bit like coming back from a rough camping trip, or my 3 months in India with cold showers)... it just felt divine. What happened? Zen got on to it straight away, but it turns out it WAS a simple fix. The plumber who did the plumbing for our house forgot about our patio plumbing (which is waiting for the patio bench to go in, which is waiting for the external stairs...). So because of the pipes going to the patio there was a loop or something there that had been closed off, with the consequence of no hot water getting to the taps. It was fixed in 5 minutes!! The plumber who worked it out was the same guy from yesterday, but he said he wasn't feeling well yesterday and wasn't thinking straight. Whatever - maybe he went and got some advice, maybe he did wake up this morning and thing 'oh yeah, the patio pipes are locked'?! We don't care - we are just OVER THE MOON to have hot water. And no need to go into the ceiling etc. (Boy that would have been ugly - not only because of the extra work, but also they wouldn't have found anything because the plumbing rough-in was fine in the end). So I got to enjoy my ensuite for the first time, and boy was it beautiful. I feel like a whole dark cloud has lifted and now I can really enjoy my house. Very similar emotions to the storm water pipe experience. Not fun, but always good in everything and this has again given me perspective on the other tiny unfinished jobs on the house. Give me hot water and the rest can wait. And another nice surprise - Andrew came! Sounds silly, but I was so happy to see him. Matt SS came this morning too. I loved showing Andrew around. He loves the house - but he picked up a lot of small things that he wasn't happy with that even we hadn't noticed, and they will all be rectified, so that was a nice little bonus. Matt SS house sitting for us is turning into another positive that he can get on with getting the house finished while we are away. They said that is their goal - by the time we get back from Italy the house will all be done. Matt SS laughed that living there he will be working on Sundays. Oh - but here is one. Andrew bagged me out for our daggy furniture. He is too honest sometimes. He is an ultra modern guy and he didn't take to my antique furniture (which came from my grandparents). DH and I actually completely agree and were commenting to each other when we moved in that it didn't quite look right - it just doesn't suit the modern house. But until our budget can expand again we will make do. And of course I am not throwing the furniture out - far too sentimental. That is a decision for another day. So it is all good and I am one happy little house owner right now! Now I am feeling positive again, it is time for photos.... So glad it was a simple fix! Cant wait for lots of photos! Re: SunshineT's Build: we have HOT WATER!!! happy happy 3640Sep 06, 2012 11:34 am Great outcome T, I can imagine the bliss of that shower. We have a few pieces of antique furniture too, some of it I think mixes with modern stuff, big old Kauri table with new cream leather chairs (poor cousins of gogos) a couple of sideboards one I love & one that I wanted to sell prior to the shift but we have a big space in the front entry & might see what it looks like there first. We have bought new bar stools for kitchen & one new chocolate leather lounge suite & will be keeping our old cream leather suite. You can tell I like leather, easy cleaning! We also have antique desk & chair for the study. I am really don't want the place to look too cluttered might have to cull some stuff. Show us your photos T, for an honest appraisal, haha.
