Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 21, 2010 5:45 pm Hi All, we started looking at buying a house in July to accommodate my too fast growing baby but could not find anything that was nice enough and fit our budget. After calling the council numerous times over 3 days, we were told we have our approval today and expect a letter in mail next week. Builder has marked us for a start date of 1st March 2010. Our loan offer was expiring on 27 Jan and our loan officer has managed to get us an extension. Phew... Patiently waiting for the ground work to begin. Thought will not be excited until our scrapping will begin but we drove by the estate on Sunday and 4 or 5 of the lots have had activity already. I'm so excited now. Re: Building our home 5Jan 26, 2010 12:39 am Hi all, I notice some members referring to "Champion Homes" and associated problems. I am in the unfortuante position that we have started building in October 2008, it is now January 2010 and we are still building. I have major problems, I am getting nowhere and the matter is heading for Courts. The negligence, mistakes and the visible defects are numerous and unfortunately these builders live on the principle that "close enough is good enough" I would like to know what problems others are having. Tony C Re: Building our home 7Feb 19, 2010 11:26 am I'm building a HH too - a modified Flair 258. So far, no major problems....except for rock Love your colour choice...we've practically got the same colours (must have chosen the same range) Made a few changes to our plan.....linen cupboard opens into the laundry instead of the hallway and bedroom 2,3 and 4 all have sliding doors instead of windows plus upgraded kitchen to the premiere - surprise from DH. Whereabouts in Brissy are you building? Looking forward to watching your build...best of luck Re: Building our home 8Feb 22, 2010 8:42 pm Hi Pebbles, we are building in Doolandella, in between Durack and Forestlake. Similar colors? as in the wall colors? I was so happy we had free choice over the colors. Some builders gave a list of colors we had to choose from and I wasn't too impressed. Hmm Premier kitchen, all I remember is requesting gas stove tops instead of the stand alone, got overhead exhaust (I think that's what it's called) and getting overhead cupboards. The guy at springfield display center just added those for us. We also requested stone bench tops. The plan had 3 rooms only, we changed the multimedia room to B4. Sliding doors sound nice. Yeah, fingers crossed it will be dry on Monday and digging can start. Building with Hallmark modified Flair 201 / Ashton Settlement 6 Dec 09. Council Approval - 21 Jan 10. Re: Building our home 9Feb 22, 2010 10:36 pm Oops sorry...not colours, I meant to say tiles...we also picked Scheme 4, does that sound right to you? The rental we're in at the moment has sliding doors on all their rooms and we've found it lets a lot air flow through the bedrooms so included this with ours. Also, found more rock today.... Re: Building our home 10Mar 02, 2010 10:41 pm We went to the site on Sunday before last and got excited because frames were there. The digging had not started yet. I called HH on Monday and got told the frames are not ours It belongs to one of the neighbours across the road. So I went back on Thursday to see if the frames had been removed..NO. so I asked the builders to remove it and was promised by Monday they will remove it. Our retaining wall was suppose to go up today but the builder told me we can't do it until we have atleast 1 dry day othrewise the cement won't cure....Argh rain... and there is more predicted. I'm dying to take pictures. Building with Hallmark modified Flair 201 / Ashton Settlement 6 Dec 09. Council Approval - 21 Jan 10. Start Date - 1 March 2010 Rain delayed. Re: Building our home 12Jun 08, 2010 10:47 pm Hi ritat ... WELCOME back!!! I subscribe to your thread so when it came up as "Building our home" I couldn't remember who it belonged to, it's been ages since you were here ... had to scroll up the page to see who's thread I was reading House is looking GREAT TWO sleeps until handover Are you all packed and ready to go? We've had our house for over two weeks and STILL not in ... we like to take our time Looking forward to seeing some inside pics Re: Building our home 13Jun 08, 2010 11:39 pm Hi Pebbles, I come back almost everyday to read your update We have packed 4 baby diaper boxes We still have a lot to do before we can move in. The estate contract states we have to have driveway and landscape before moving in. We have driveway probably this friday. I work Mn - Wed so we can only get the inside things done on Thursday or Friday. So next Friday we are getting the tiles then the Thursday after we are getting carpet. Somewhere in those 2 weeks we are getting the Blinds and security grills and the aircons. Also found out yesterday, there are no gas pipes from the road to the house. I remember calling the gas guy and he had said not to worry, he will do everything. Turns out he only does inside the house. So we now have to wait on APA to do the pipes. Our neighbours soil is also slowly sliding onto ours. HH built retaining walls half way down for us. According to the law, they have to go halves since they did a fill but they refused, said fence was in their contract so we do the wall and they do fence and exchange of funds. Hubby seems ok with that. We will be on leave from 8 July so the big move is then. When are you moving in? Building with Hallmark modified Flair 201 / Ashton Settlement 6 Dec 09.
