Browse Forums Building A New House Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14361Jun 27, 2018 10:47 am Hi Kime, Thank you this is very helpful! Was changing the wall size and tank location at that time of registration okay with McDonald jones? or did you also have to confirm with council? We also have an easement down the side of the dining room side which may be an issue. The side is 1,500 and easement is 0.9 wide. I'm at early stages ( just confirming the deposit variation) so I'm not sure when exactly I'm allowed to change things. Is your house finished? We have chosen the Lucas Façade. If you have photos that would be great to see. Thank you Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14363Jun 27, 2018 11:01 am TaekwondoGirl We are in the very very early stages of building our own home - no contracts signed yet, and MCJ is our preferred builder based on the floor plans display homes that we've seen. Is there anything I should be aware of in these early stages? Anything you wish you had done differently at the start? Hi, look at where your easements are on your land, issues with where you can put your water tank. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14364Jun 27, 2018 11:18 am kmartin3 Hi Kime, Also, did you have Air con and if so where did you put your unit? Thank you Hi kmartin3 I feel that they only accepted the change because I clearly confirmed that it was requested at the plan presentation. That said that they could not confirm until engineering was completed. Our house hasn't even started, still waiting on certificates and approvals. 15 weeks since registration. We went with the classic facade in hebel. MJH nominated the AC adjacent the Master Suite - we also upgraded this to a Actron ESP Plus 131 Single Phase 4 zones for $4000 extra. More efficient and better control than the standard 3 phase unit. Can see a 36 m retaining wall. From 600 mm to 900 mm max heights. Any idea how much can that cost. Timber or brick ?? Do we need to get it done before or after the built. Am aware can do at landscaping stage normally. But just to check. Any help appreciated. As for cost, I'd expect a 5-figure price tag for a fully installed retaining wall, possibly more if your council requirements include engineering for any walls over 600mm. I have one 27m long wall and one 14m long one and the costs were shocking with the first quote. Did you get any better quote and if I can get the details would be helpful. Hills area or nearby, if it is ? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14369Jun 28, 2018 4:12 pm We got a slightly cheaper quote of $26k for our entire thing, we're in the middle of trying to work out how to make it cheaper (wholesale supply of the blocks, some diy labour). It's painfully expensive. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14370Jun 28, 2018 4:12 pm We're in Newcastle -you might find your quote slightly cheaper if there's more tradies around your area Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14372Jul 13, 2018 5:29 pm Sir Henry nikel66 Hi. Our solicitor tried to get them to increase the daily liquidated damages rate but they refused point blank. They set out in the contract when you are required to pay the progress payments. I highly doubt that you would be allowed change this and you must pay it when they ask. We found from time to time that we were billed for a certain stage in the build, only to find the work was not complete when we went to the site. Thanks for the info. Lots of complaints on the fair trading site for MJH. You just answered your own question, plenty more complaints you don't know about from people who have had the lives sucked out of them and no energy to make a complaint and just move on and deal with the problems themselves, its disgusting MJH take advantage of people and ruin their dreams. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14374Aug 17, 2018 8:57 am $1000 Admin Charge is applicable for "your changes" that you decide to make AFTER colours, however, I also found a few issues that had been created by MJH and those "corrections/adjustments" did NOT attract the $1000 Admin Charge Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14375Aug 17, 2018 11:22 am Kime $1000 Admin Charge is applicable for "your changes" that you decide to make AFTER colours, however, I also found a few issues that had been created by MJH and those "corrections/adjustments" did NOT attract the $1000 Admin Charge Hi Kime, Can you elaborate please. Did they not make changes even you willing to pay $1000 ? Did they not make changes even you willing to pay $1000 ? Mime is saying that they found mistakes made by MJH that MJH has to correct/adjust and as they were there mistake they obviously wouldn’t or shouldn’t charge you the admin fee as it’s there stuff up. if you ‘change your mind’ on something after selections they will charge you for it. It’s to influence people on not making changes which I understand why they do it. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14377Aug 17, 2018 11:28 am I decided to change the type of Air Conditioning AFTER colour selection process - this incurred the $1000 fee. We had been subject to changes after engineering, no admin fee applied - just the cost of the change. Some changes were NIL value or even a credit back to us. Yeh am aware we would be charged if we change after. So you made changes for AC and were charged $1000 But this change was subject to engineering. And you made more changes after engineering and they didn’t charge you was it ? Sorry. Am in a process for this and they are not replying. How did you go with your retaining wall build. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14380Feb 12, 2019 10:40 pm Hi All, With our new home plans, we are requesting thus builder to provide a clear water provision close to the WC, with a plug no tap. For this we were told they need to put a valve or liver or so to avoid contamination of water etc to the pipes. The cost quoted to us is $10,000 for 2 x WC to provide this provision. No Bidet to be fitted, only extend clear water pipes to get it close to the 2 x WC’s with a plug to avoid water flow. How does the price sound for the job and what can be the price ?? Any advise ? All plans are finalised, this was requested after. Thank you Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders.
