Browse Forums Building A New House Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6381May 24, 2014 9:29 am I spoke to our bricklayer this morning on site who confirmed what our SS said yesterday that they should be finished next Wednesday/Thursday. Gutters and fascia's should arrive Friday. Its good to have a nice run of weather and hopefully it will continue while our roof is being installed. Jessica18, what area in Newcastle are you building? Our door frame has gone up but it doesn't quite look like what I remembered. On my colour selection document it says 920w by 2340h with stained finish with translucent glazing and laminate. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6383May 25, 2014 2:36 pm Hi, Has anyone got photos of what a standard kitchen would look like? You go in display homes but i am not sure if they are upgrades in the kitchen would be good to see some photos of how cupboards etc look Im assuming that something like this would be the offering but with glass splashback (with impressions) http://mcdonaldjoneshomes.com.au/sites/ ... itchen.jpg I would be going 40mm bench tops too Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6384May 25, 2014 3:05 pm That picture looks pretty close to me Buzurk. The only things I can pick that are upgrades from that picture are the down lights under the cabinets and if there is any 'sheen' on the cabinets that would be an upgrade too. I'm not too sure if that range hood is an upgrade? it looks a bit different to the one we're getting. Hopefully someone else with a keen eye can pick out anything else! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6390May 26, 2014 8:48 pm Has anyone used a private inspector? I wanted to have one for PCI. Do they normally come at the same time as us for the PCI, or do they book a separate day? Reason I ask, is that I contacted one who is mentioned in these forums and comes with a lot of recommendations about 3 weeks ago. He said he would call our SS and arrange a time and then let me know when he has access. When we booked in a time for PCI with our SS, I let him know, but to date, no contact from him and PCI is tomorrow. I guess, my main question, is it expected that we do the PCI with the private inspector or would they normally do their own another time? Cheers, Brad Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6392May 27, 2014 6:32 am So we've now paid $5 g toward deposit and going through the stages of finalizing the quote . Next stage would be to pay 4% of the build portion . Worried about this payment as it's a lot of money with unregistered land . If the land took way longer then expected your really locked in with no where to go . Has anybody ever managed to negotiate this amount ? I know it's a long shot but worth asking . Also the statutory requirements within the quote has about 8500 toward water tank etc . With the whole quote basically you'll never know if your getting completly ripped off or if they're actually needed. As for the water tank, legally all new builds have to have them (if that is what you were referring to when you said if they're actually needed). I am sure everything on the quote is marked up, but that is how they profit and unfortunately it is at our cost. The joys of going with a project builder! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6394May 27, 2014 8:50 am 2nd what Nat said. We paid our $3,000 deposit in August 2013 and not a cent more until we got our construction certificate in Feb 2014, just weeks before the site was pegged. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6395May 27, 2014 9:14 am Thanks that's really helpful I'll be asking the question now. Basically we are supposed to pay the remainder of the 4% deposit in 8-10 weeks which means we would have paid over 12 thousand dollars toward the house when our land isn't going to register till feburary best case so It didn't feel right. Might talk to the solicitor first . Loved the picture overload in your blog Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6399May 27, 2014 2:32 pm Brad how come another 3,4 weeks to you move in, was that what you wanted.? Surely it doesnt take that long for fix ups??usually 6 weeks from when painter started!! We are 4 weeks behind you I'll spew if that happens to us. But I will be complain about things once we are in.its our second house with mj and once your in you find more bits bobs then takes 1year having them come back. Joys of building?? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6400May 27, 2014 8:23 pm Hi all Would like some advice with painting walls. Should you have your wall colour the same as doors skirting and architraves ? With white ceilings and cornices.I do believe it would make ceilings look higher! There are many blogs I have seen with ceilings to match skirting , doors and architraves for a contrast? Any thoughts would be great. Apparently having all 1 colour gives a seamless effect. Cheers Bel Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones.
