Browse Forums Building A New House Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13582Jun 27, 2016 4:33 pm pshome matbellau, Thanks! Would have a picture of it to share? Here you go. Wanted Oven and Microwave mid-height in the tower for when we get old. Doing that, we lost the 90cm underbench oven option, and went to a 60cm one. So we paid $$$ for an upgrade to one with a much bigger internal volume. I actually think we've done one variation since that aligns the bottom 3 drawers under the Oven and MW with the rest of the underbench drawers. Anybody here got over and microwave as a tower setup? Will that cost extra, if so how much? Thanks $2,600 (at Colours 6 months ago). Double Stack Wall Tower option, Oven and Microwave next to each other. Exclusive of any oven upgrade. QLD. Any idea how much for the single tower? $1300? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13585Jun 27, 2016 8:11 pm pshome Thanks Qld_Oasis for the layout design. Ha, no idea how tapatalk and homeone usernames work. We're one in the same person. So that was the design for the price quoted. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13586Jun 27, 2016 11:48 pm Just3ofus ^^^ we're still with our building and design consultant atm. I said I really preferred the look of the flat profile tile. He said he would do anything in his power to steer me away from them. Gave me a list of very valid, and varied reasons why. In the end of course it is our decision, but we've decided to stick with the colourbond also. It's also cheaper with the steel frame, which we want. Efs. Dont get me wrong i love the look of flat profile roof tiles, if it wasnt for the leaks that might occur in the future I would have went with tiles. Flat profile tiles look better in my opinion. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13587Jun 28, 2016 3:36 pm Just had a question regarding the occupation certificate. Is this something we need to arrange or does the builder arrange this. We are handing over in a couple of weeks and just need to know if its something I need to start organising now or whether that is done for us by the builder prior to handover. Is there a checklist of items that need to be in place to pass the occupation certificate. I know it mentions somewhere in our contract that we need to install a clothesline for the basix. But is there anything else or anywhere I can find specs on what is required. Will be able to help Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13590Jul 01, 2016 10:28 am Just met our site supervisor Anthony which will be managing the rest of our build. Super friendly and accommodating and from the initial impression I can't ask for a better SS. Frame started yesterday and 90% of it is already up. They are just waiting for a crane to finish up the frame for roof. All in all, great experience so far. Just trying to learn from those who have already done all this with them Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13594Jul 01, 2016 2:03 pm pshome Awesome Jazz, that fantastic progress. What date they given you for the PCI? Share some pics when you get a chance. pshome. Will get some photo's over the weekend. Was in a rush this morning so didn't take any photo's. Too early for a PCI date. We did get a letter from MJH saying they are aiming to get the house handed over by the 30th of November. Our SS was also very open to us getting our own independent inspector which was good. Just go by - anything that will cost more to do or replace after handover is worth having done by builder. That is stating the obvious. And things that are absolute-must-haves and can fit within your budget, I say go for it. In our case, we are doing flooring and a good number of electrical upgrades after handover e.g LED's. This saves us easy $10K. But if money is not an issue, would let MJH do it. Power points are cheap upgrades and suggest putting on as much as you can. Do as much research as you can before your colours and electricals and will be much easier for you and the consultants. Eg shower screens, appliances, cabinet finishes, more power points? Just trying to learn from those who have already done all this with them I suppose it really is a matter of how much extra you want to spend. Now that we have been in the house for six months, I have the following thoughts: Semi frameless shower screens. Well worth it Extra power points, worth it, as for me it was too hard to do later 40mm kitchen bench looks great. I gave up on the waterfall ends, and now am happy that we did not get them Put bench top in laundry, with drop in sink. Wall cupboard above. Makes the room much more efficient. Wished I had done laundry with hinged door, rather than sliding door. Drawers in kitchen for all under bench, worth it. Used laminex cupboards. No door handles. Looks great. Love the rain head shower. Could have done with out the spa bath 1200 high tiles look great. Glad we did not go floor to ceiling. Got flush to wall toilets. Very happy with how they look, and no gap behind toilet that is hard to clean I am tall, and insisted on 2.7 ceiling, and higher doors. Makes the house feel much roomier, and worth the $$. Any one who comes into the house always mentions how fairly it feels, and how they like the higher ceilings. Expensive upgrade, but worth it. Wish I had done coffered ceiling in entry and media room Had all rooms wired for ceiling fans, and did not do too many down lights. Lights are very bright, so don't go over board with them Did bag n paint for front of house. Looks great Had all exterior lights wired, and I sourced my own fittings. Spent a fair bit for larger walk in butlers pantry. Worth every cent as both of us like to cook and be in the kitchen at the same time. Made garage 1/2 m wider. I wish I had made it 1 m wider, or else considered three car garage MJH did bamboo flooring for entire house. No carpets. Very happy with the look. It was reasonable price for them to do the house. Spent extra on taps. Maybe could have done with out that Spent extra on door handles, for all interior doors. Look good. Spent extra on entry door hard ware, plus made the door higher and wider. Worth it, as the entry way looks impressive Went with standard tiles for wet areas. They look great Hope that gives you some idea from an owner who had now lived in the new house for six months. Over all, we are very pleased with the build. If we were ever to do this again, we would use MJH again. Only down side is six months of hard work outside after you move in ! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13598Jul 01, 2016 9:52 pm Hey guys. Thanks for the ideas, we haven't had our Colours or electrical appointments yet but so far we have upgraded to 2.7 ceilings, high doors, tiles throughout with carpet in bedrooms, drawers to the kitchen, raised entry doors. At the appointments We're planing to upgrade the door handles to levers, upgraded front door hardware, shower recess and more power points, and blinds throughout, tv brackets. We're doing frameless shower screens after handover. If I had done a hinged door, I could have put a window in the wall, and then made the bench top longer, to finish under the window. We have a front loading washer, so there would be space for it, with the bench running over the top of the machine. Better use of the space, I think.
