Browse Forums Building A New House Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6801Aug 01, 2014 1:18 pm Thanks for that Brad! For now it is just my hubby and I so I would like to think we won't wreck the walls too much on our own! Hope you are settling in well I just went to the house and my site supervisor just happened to rock up a couple mins later and offered to take me through the house! Stoked! All the skirting and architraves were up (so that means we can get our final measurements for our carpet and blinds). The doors were all in and looked great, love my front door and it hasn't even been stained yet. A few minor things the SS pointed out to me that he wants fixed up that I wouldn't have even noticed so it's good to see he is very thorough and cares, he is very proactive. I was nervous about being assigned a new SS but this one has blown me away, we better not get given another one LOL! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6802Aug 01, 2014 1:49 pm Hi all - quick query - have just received contract - colours completed last week. At colours appt we were told that our BAL requirements will come out - they havent. We were quoted for BAL requirements in our tender/quote, but the extras we have to have as BAL requirements ie aluminium flyscreens, toughened door glass are now on top of what we were quoted? I assume that they will come off at the end. For us thats the cheap part of the extras for our build, its the Acoustic Requirements our Council has specified that we have to do now even before the Badgerys Creek Airport is built... the council have just decided on a whim that we had to do it. 17 years ago they started the process for the airport and if it goes ahead fair and well but seriously they just don't realise the cost.. its about 6 times the cost of our BAL requirements... What BAL rating are you? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6805Aug 01, 2014 8:47 pm Nat84 Thanks for that Brad! You are so lucky to be able to look through the windows, I can't get past the security fence. Wish I knew the combination to that padlock! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6808Aug 02, 2014 12:25 am Just thought I would write a short post to say I've been reading people's progress and checking most people's blogs. I am at the very start of this journey! Feels a bit surreal, so much to think about. I find reading about other's experiences very reassuring! Looking forward to colours. Congratulations Di + Matt You must be so excited! If you run on the same timeline as us you might be in by Christmas! Thanks MelnTom! Fingers crossed but we're just relieved to be at this stage! The more time we have, the longer I have to find dining chairs- I am stressed to the max because the chairs I want cost far too much! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6814Aug 04, 2014 8:37 am Congrats Di+Matt! Sounds like it has been a long time coming Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6815Aug 04, 2014 1:03 pm Hi All! I've just joined up. We are usually renovators but have finally taken the plunge to build! I always thought I would be way too impatient to build and I think its still true! We are living on the property that we will be building on, so the slow progress will be obvious every day! We are building the Bronte! edited to note just received hopefully our final DV, will see how we go! Garage door was installed today. I drove past when they were installing and then hubby drove past once it was complete and closed, so I haven't seen it up close and personal and won't be able to for a few days but I'm very excited - bittersweet though as I won't be able to get in anymore! I'm loving it at the moment, every single day there is someone at the house doing something Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6817Aug 04, 2014 1:12 pm Nat84 ::cheerleader:: OFFICIALLY LOCKED OUT!!! Garage door and all internal doors are on. Waterproofing completed. Kitchen and wet area tiling this week. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6818Aug 04, 2014 1:23 pm Yes definitely neck and neck! Our internals door and water proofing all done too (well water proofing started, think they just have to do the last of it in the next couple of days). Kitchen and bathroom vanities being installed this week and tiling commences next week hopefully it's a very exciting time! Kitchen and bathroom vanities being installed this week and tiling commences next week hopefully it's a very exciting time! Congrats! Unfortunately, we have dropped out of the race - a whole week has passed with just the cornices going up... No sign of doors, internal or external. I think we've been placed in the low priority pile. I have to laugh - I had a week off work and painted our entire home. In two weeks it will mark six months since we were placed on the construction list. At this rate I'll be happy with handover before christmas! Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders.
