Browse Forums Building A New House Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 81Jul 10, 2010 8:11 pm Hi I have been very quiet the last few weeks - and so has progress with my home. Our plans were in Council for a whole 16 days and approved so YAY for Council. Our approval came through on or about 16 June. Unfortunately, as has been a continuing pattern since I paid my deposit last year, McD Jones have decided they don't need to stick to their 20 day construction start period and I have been given a date of 5 August . Needless to say I am completely frustrated with continuing delays and a little unsure of how to move things forward . I think I will get in touch with a supervisor next week and see if they can get things moving. If I had my time over I am fairly certain I would select an alternate builder. Anyway that is my rant and I hope I haven't overstepped the line... Bizzie, you are flying along with your place. It must be really exciting seeing things come together! Vweepee, I saved the electrical pricing list if you are still after a copy. I will PM anyone else who also wants one. Katrina, your house is gorgeous. You must love being in. I hope you can post some more photos for us all to look at! Gavmer, great choice of house. We are getting the Vogue Executive facade – same as the Fern Bay display. I really love the facade at Gilleston Heights (Balinese one I think) but it was a bit pricey. We aren't rendering at all – our bricks are as per the Gilleston Heights Sorrento display with a Surfmist colorbond roof. Not many seem to go with a light coloured roof – I hope it all comes together! Also interesting to note some comments about lead times. Thats probably my only gripe at the moment - waited forever for my deposit variation and again, waiting forever for my consolidated tender. Finally got a colour appointment mid august, long time to wait but, oh well. Hopefully after that, things go quick! Bon, great to hear things are moving forward! I'm really interested to hear about the choices you make!! I'm actually thinking of a light roof also. Ill post the decisions after colour selections. What we have decided is - balinese facade (extra 3k), larger alfresco and mid height ceilings. I priced tiles AGAIN over the weekend and we are going to do this ourselves as well as lights (related to sparky). Keep us in the loop Bon and everyone else!!! I might start a blog actually???? Cheers!!!! Thanks M Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 84Jul 13, 2010 6:49 pm Hi All Well I spoke with a supervisor today and I am hoping that we might see some building movement on our land a little earlier than 5 August - I will just have to wait and see. I am just soooo keen to see something happen after what seems like an endless wait. Hope everyone else is progressing well! Bon Hi Bon, hope you do get some early movement, we have had a busy day today after we had to attend the site for the pouring of the piers. We had to be present to approve any additional piering for our pool. How has this been done? I thought it was by MJH, as I have brought the power/water/telecom cable down to the site, but what about the last couple of metres between the pole and the house? Is that something I need to do? Can anyone help me understand how that happens? Thanks in advance..... Hi X69, MJH connected ours, we just got a letter from Energy Australia (the default power co that will be changed when we move in) telling us it had been connected and asking for a $200 deposit. We have a pole out the front, then underground to the meter box. Hope this helps. Jennie Building Bordeaux 13m Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 88Jul 15, 2010 2:25 pm Thanks for that Jennie. Another thing, who does the application for the council occupation certificate? And when is that done? Assuming that MJH won't do that or do they? Also, I have just been advised of a contractor to bring the phone line in, what have others done in that regard? Apologies for the barrage of questions, it's just that it seems things are getting close to the end of the build but there are things that I don't know about.....appreciate any/all responses! BM = its all happening for you good to see X = I will be interested in the answer you get, good questions too things we all need to know. woodduck = I am going round for a look see.. I have 2 questions: Did anyone have their pricing reviewed by MJH because they hit "that" date on their contract? and How long between, out of council and the date of something starting? Thanks heaps riccathome Building:Bronte Grand Manor Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 93Jul 16, 2010 6:37 pm Cathy I am so jealous that you are in council (I'm half joking) Anyway I'm happy that things are progressing quickly for you and it looks like MJH will be busy building all our homes out there soon enough. We are waiting for our contracts which I hope are arriving next week. I have been having the "that date" discussion with the CL a number of times over the last few weeks as we are way over it but we will have to wait and see about that. Everyone else's builds that are progressed to the contrustion stage are certainly travelling along well Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 94Jul 17, 2010 11:30 pm danana 'bout 18 days until they start building our bordeaux! Congrats on a good choice Danana Are you building the 13 metre or the 15 metre? We are building the 13 metre so hubby can get his whopper of a fishing boat down the side. Our kitchen and joiner-made vanities are inside waiting to be installed, hurray! Everyone is at such different stages now, it's so exciting!! I must say though, it's quicker to create another human being than it is to build a house lol, we've been at it now for 9 months since original deposit. Hi again X69, I'm sure I remember reading that MJH applies to the Council for the occupation certificate when they are satisfied they've finished the job. We got an electrical package that includes phone lines. We got an electrical package that includes phone lines, TV aerial points, home theatre setup, alarm etc and from what they said, they do all the wiring and we just have to call our Telco and arrange for the new connection when we move in. Thanks again Jennie. We were told that we did not even have an option for one phone point! There is just a hole in the wall with a cable poking through ready for a face plate where we have nominated the phone point to be. We weren't even told about anything like the options you were. Home theatre package!?!?! Good to know about the OC. Thanks. But I have to admit, when MJH originally applied for the sewerage stuff to council, we didn't even know they had done anything until we were asked to let them know when the approval was provided from council....that was responded to with 'Approval for what?' as they hadn't told us what they were doing or what we needed to do. Got a surprise yesterday when we visited. The temporary fence is down and most of the kitchen is done (waiting on the splashback to be installed). The bathrooms are mostly done (shower screens still to be fitted) and the sewerage connection to be completed. They have even cleaned up most of the concrete that had been splashed over the windows and into the tracks of the sliding doors...how they got that out is beyond me! Anyway, fingers crossed, not much longer now. And we are a bit further around toward Wangi. PM if you want to exchange more detailed notes and experiences! In our colour pack there was a pamphlet from SOT Mobile Install Communications with a few electrical packages to choose from. The one we took was 3.5K and included TV aerial, 4 aerial points, 3 phone lines (one for PayTV) all the HDMI pre wire for a home theatre, two ceiling speakers, a reinforced bracket for wall mounting a TV and can't quite remember what else. You must be excited, not long to go now! Can I ask how close you were to your contract date (the 140 days)? Just curious as to whether they finish early Jen Building Bordeaux 13m Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 98Jul 18, 2010 10:34 pm Jennie_ danana 'bout 18 days until they start building our bordeaux! We are building the 14m, how long has it been since you started building? We demolished at the end of February, MJH started building about Mid April. We lost a bunch of time through rain though - MJH send a letter claiming rain days to extend the contract finish date, and they had to claim about 20 days for rain. They didn't try and claim more than was fair because I kept track . We get a call from the site supervisor every couple of weeks to let us know what they are up to. Did you upgrade your facade? I wanted the Balinese Tropicana, but the plain Tropicana has the extra bit of room in the front bedroom so we opted for that instead.
