Do you have any photos to share? Thanks. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14222Apr 03, 2017 2:05 pm Currently building a beechwood however in 18 months we going to start the process again. Went and had a look yesterday at the seaside retreat at shell cove. Nice house. Has anyone on here built it. Can you give me a ball park figure on site costs. What was the journey like from time of tender to keys. Thoughts and opinions of building with McDonald jones. It is a house and land package so we are hoping the costs don't blow out too much. I look forward to being a part of the forum. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14227Apr 19, 2017 2:33 pm Hello All, Just wondering if anyone is having very slow response time with questions or progression of activities with their project co-ordinator? We have signed contracts but waiting on a couple of variations to come in that were not ready at time of signing, and it has been 6-7 weeks since these items were raised. Our paperwork has been with council 6 weeks now (and that could take a while going on previous experience)... and we are already 6 months into our 12 month price fix. What happens if it goes past the 12 month mark? Looking forward to hearing of your experiences. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14228Apr 19, 2017 4:14 pm lileegirl anyone have a modified 5 bed Lyndhurst with extra bathrooms, ideally ensuites for the kids rooms or jack n Jill bathrooms? We're looking for a large 5-6 bed design with at least 3-4 baths for our young foster children. We are in the process of finalising a modified Lyndhurst, however not a 5 bedroom and three bathroom dwelling. Ours has a extended bathroom with a maxed out bath, and widened shower and a WC included, extended ensuite with bath. You could easily modify the design to have ensuite with each room and WIR in each room. All depends on your building allocation and bedroom size allocation. Allow approx. $1000 per sqm for room size changes and $1200 per sqm for wet areas. I have seen a design for 5 bedda (3m x 3m rooms) and the third bathroom worked in through the powder room. It did however mean that the WIL was removed. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14229Apr 25, 2017 3:27 pm Did our colour selection day yesterday. 28.5k extra for upgrades. 10k of that was for a fireplace so that's not really an upgrade and I do not classify it as an upgrade. So, in reality, the upgrades cost us about 19k. Most of our costs were to upgrade tiling to the wet areas, as their standard range is very basic. So we upgraded to nicer porcelain tiles which ended up costing us another 3.5k or so. We also upgraded the kitchen cupboards as plain Formica panelling wasn't our go. The other major disappointment is their range of internal colours. Again to go outside that range or for feature walls is quite pricey so we left them alone. Most of their other inclusions are quite acceptable. The tapware, exterior choices and furnishing was quite good. Overall we are quite happy with what our overall house should look like once completed. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14230Apr 25, 2017 8:21 pm Building seaside retreat with MJH what prices were others quoted for temp fencing for site , is it a standard price or varies with amount needed ? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14231Apr 26, 2017 8:37 am We thoiught the process was quite good considering we changed our minds so many times . The sales consultants and office customer service people were good .. we expected 6 months because that is what the consultant suggested to allow and it was written in our quote at 180- days . ... so in our case they kept to their word ... we have been very happy . Things do go wrong but you expect that when building . we have done this a few times but the process this time has been better than the previous occassions we built Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14232Apr 26, 2017 10:25 am SH60 We thoiught the process was quite good considering we changed our minds so many times . Things do go wrong but you expect that when building . we have done this a few times but the process this time has been better than the previous occassions we built Thank you both for your feedback. So far we have found the process reasonably efficient and progressive. It's just recently, since we signed the HIA contract, responses have been slow to outstanding items. We were very impressed with the progression of items from consolidated tender to final contracts and very straight forward. We have changed our minds on one thing since the original tender. And something we requested from the beginning was not included in the contract. Since signing we have changed project co-ordinators and she is trying to pick up the pieces from the original PC. While I expect some bumps along the way, I'm very hopeful of a relatively smooth process. This is more about trying to understand what others experiences have been and what we should expect. We have just received our council approval (way quicker than I expected) so getting very excited at the prospect of having a home as this has been a 4 year stop start bumpy journey (for reasons nothing to do with McDJ). I've learned to keep a close eye on detail and progression to ensure that everyone and everything is clear and prevent mistakes being made (both builder and us). NSWFIREMAN, how long from council approval (we already have a CC from a previous DA that we can use) to being put on construction list? Thanks. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14233Apr 26, 2017 1:56 pm Hello all I was wondering if anyone had the experience and knowledge on what costs are involved in flipping a house plan through McDonald Jones. We are looking at building the Douglas to suit our very small block in Calderwood, the only issue is our garage and driveway must sit on the right side of the block, & with this we wouldn't mind flipping the front third of the house, up until the garage end and the laundry. http://www.mcdonaldjoneshomes.com.au/ho ... floorplans Any help would be greatly appreciated Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14234Apr 26, 2017 4:28 pm Daniel Marskell Hello all I was wondering if anyone had the experience and knowledge on what costs are involved in flipping a house plan through McDonald Jones. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14236May 02, 2017 10:14 pm Hi all, I have a question; we are at the beginning of the process of building a Bronte, we put our deposit down in June 2016 and have been to colours, electrical etc. We have finally had approval for the DA and the authority to commence from the bank was received by MJH before the approval of the DA. We were under the impression that was the final step and we then go onto the construction list, apparently that is not so as we wait for them to complete a "checklist". I received an email today that refers to "receiving the lodgement" - I have no idea what that means but sounds like it might take a while. We had really hoped to be in this house for Christmas and as the weeks tick by it is starting to look less likely. Can anyone shed any light about how long it might be to get onto the construction list and what it is exactly that they are doing while we are just left hanging? Thanks Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14237May 02, 2017 10:23 pm -Ela- Hi all, I have a question; we are at the beginning of the process of building a Bronte, we put our deposit down in June 2016 and have been to colours, electrical etc. We have finally had approval for the DA and the authority to commence from the bank was received by MJH before the approval of the DA. Thanks Hi Ela, We are on same boat as well. We received CDC approval last week and my lender also provided the ACC letter as well. Based on some of my friends experience it's pretty quick after that evacuation should start in 1 week time. Where you guys building? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14238May 02, 2017 10:53 pm Ela WE were told that once the DA is approved they check the conditions of approval and then apply for the Construction Certificate from the private certifier not Council . Once they receive that they put you immediately on the construction list to start the work . The said they would start on site within 20 working days and during that time they write up their orders , send them out to suppliers and have the early materials made ....frames/ bricks/roofing etc This is what our client consultant wrote to us Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14239May 03, 2017 2:00 pm -Ela- Hi all, I have a question; we are at the beginning of the process of building a Bronte, we put our deposit down in June 2016 and have been to colours, electrical etc. We have finally had approval for the DA and the authority to commence from the bank was received by MJH before the approval of the DA. Thanks Hi Ela We're building a Bronte Grand Manor 1 at Port Macquarie. We have selected all our colours etc and are signing our contracts on Monday the 8/5. I have no idea nor was aware of this checklist or what it entails. We are in no hurry to build, just as well, because the process involved is definitely a lengthy one. Cheers Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 14240May 04, 2017 7:19 pm Thank you all for your replies, based on all of that we should really be on the list already. So I ended up speaking with management because it just wasn't adding up. Ours was submitted to council as a section 96 as we have previously had a DA approved on our land and our coordinator didn't really understand as it seems they only know how to deal with a complying development. We've lost two weeks which I'm not pleased about but hopefully we can get ourselves on that elusive list really soon.
