Blue board has been delivered and the gyprock is being delivered next week so I hope that the rain doesnt last too long. We are really happy with everything so far..especially the SS, he is really good with communication. Built the Havana 3 by McDonald Jones Homes Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1024Jul 19, 2011 1:53 pm Hi all, Kopite1892, congrats on signing, whish you a smooth ride. Unfortunately, not much to update here. All the houses around us are springing up, apart from ours and another MJD house. Went by the site today after last being there on the 12/7 and everything is still the same. Frame still isn't done and windows and the sliding door are still on the ground. Have contacted MJD immediately and got a response shortly after that something is wrong with the roof trusses, but not sure what. Construction supervisor has been silent for a while now, not to mention that there was no mention of meeting at the site. What gets me the most is that we have not been contacted about the problem, not that we can solve it ourselves, but at least to know why the build isn't moving. We'll see how it pans out. In the meantime I'll have the joy of watching my neighbours' houses take shape. I'll try to find some more time today to post the photos of them. Hope everyone is well. We went and had a walk through the Infinity 1 display at Oran Park on the weekend and loved it. We have been speaking with Brett from Kellyville who has so far been helpful, we sent through an email outlining additional inclusions that we want as well as things we don't want included that we will take care of ourselves such as driveway, window coverings, flooring, etc. and are just waiting to hear back from him with a ball park quote. I'd love to know what peoples experience has been when it comes to picking colours, tiles, etc etc...what are the MDJ standard ranges like and how expensive is it to upgrade things like tiles? Any info anyone can share would be much appreciated Thanks guys! Katie Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1026Jul 23, 2011 11:07 am Hi everyone, like everyone else here have been stalking this forum/thread for a long time - and have learnt heaps from everyone's experiences. we are first time home owners/builders and exchanged on our block of land at voyager point (liverpool council) in sydney in september 2010 and finally settled on 17 june 2011. paid our deposit to MJH on 31 may and had our colour appointment on thursday. katie - we were lucky we found tiles we liked in the standard range as we are spending a fair bit ($15k) on other upgrades (like 1200mm timbergrain stained front door and garage door, ducting the rangehood, induction cooktop, 4 banks of drawers in the kitchen, stainless steel semi frameless shower screens, 40mm benchtop etc etc). we will be getting all our flooring done after handover. kopite congrats on receiving your contract, I think we might be about a month behind you and, by the look of your colour selections on your blog, going to have a fairly similar colour scheme too (inside more so than out). taki, hope your frame is completed and bricking starts soon - I am interested in your build as we will be having 3 steps put in our slightly modified beachside executive grande. gavmer, I have been checking out your blog for a while now as we originally liked the monte carlo and while we were driving around mt annan a few weeks ago checking out bricks we stumbled across your house! it's looking good! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1027Jul 23, 2011 8:44 pm Does anyone know how you go about the occupation certificate at the end of the build and how long it takes? Four months in and we are up to kitchen/bathroom cupboards. Painters/Tilers nxt! I would love a tank to catch some Rain!! Anyone upgrade paint to 3 coat low sheen? Were you happy? How much for a double drive and fences avg? Trying to budget coming into the festive end of the year! Anyone add a pool? How long does it take to organize that? Can I organise before handover? Sorry, the brain is going 100 miles an hour again! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1030Jul 25, 2011 4:40 pm hi wambam, it's a bit early for us to comment on liverpool council, will hopefully be able to share some info in about 10 weeks. whereabouts are you looking? As do our close friends who are considering to build with them. In the area we are building the MDJ homes seem to be taking a lot longer to build than the other homes, including our own. My mate wants to know what are other people's experience with the build time and quality (compared to display homes) for MDJ homes after being released for construction? Our plans have just gone off to council yesterday after having to draw up my own landscaping plan (thanks to photoshop) and having to get a bushfire report and some changes to our house like having to get weather/ corrosion proof fly screen which cost 3K more than the normal kind, oh well the final number just keeps creeping up and up! We still haven't done our electrical appointment but I already warned my husband to keep his wish list low.
After 4 agonising months we just sold our current house so it is all coming together nicely. wow sorry for the information overload but it has been a few months since I wanted to join in but never had the time. Ps, anyone done a surf mist roof? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1035Aug 02, 2011 7:20 pm Hey Guys, Just a updated from our end, I have just returned from a 3 week exercise with the AF and when I left there was a Toilet and Site Scrap, when I got back last night, I was amazed to see that the Slab was down and the Frame done with the bricks being delivered last night. Spoke to the Site Supe and he advised that the roof will be done before the end of the week. Nothing for weeks, then I go away and half the house is done So in under a month, we have had 02 Jul 11 - Port a Loo 07 Jul 11 - Scrap 11 - 01 Aug 11 - Piering/Slab/Frames/Bricks Delivered. We have also been given a completion date of Mid Jan 12, so hopefully we will be in before Christmas at this rate . Good to see things are progressing for you and I dont mean to sound negative cause I sure hope your build goes quicker than ours. Our slab was laid at the start of May and we still dont have all the tiles on the roof yet! Everything seemed to happen really quickly just like yours and then it virtually stopped. We were given a completion date at the end of September but at this rate we will be lucky to be in by christmas. Like I said, I truly hope that yours goes quicker than ours, as we are coming up to our 12 months since we paid the deposit. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1037Aug 02, 2011 9:26 pm thats not good news hussibug.... have they given you any feedback as to why it has taken so long to get to where u are? Built the Havana 3 by McDonald Jones Homes Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1038Aug 03, 2011 6:58 am Hi, We had Site Scrape 01.04.11. As at 01.08.11 we have the tilers in, kitchen cupboards in and painters after tiles. We are really happy with the quality and nothing has been a problem. Our SS is very easy to talk to and answers our million questions very easily (as it is our 1st build). We were given a completion date of Early Oct but have had 2 weeks rain delay. We will see how early/late we end up! There has rarely been a day including Sundays that no-one has been on site. Having said that we sought our original quote April 2010, paid our deposit June 10. The paper trail seems to be the longest. Maybe because we changed the plans to accommodate more cupboards, extended bathroom/laundry, added an extra WC etc. Good Luck! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1039Aug 03, 2011 2:08 pm Taki, haven’t hear from you in a while… how’s things going for you? Have they rectified that issue with the roof trusses? I hope everything is okay… Update on our end; we now have developer approval Yeeooopp! And we will go to the private certifier tomorrow! Has anyone sought building approval through a private certifier, how long did it take? 10 days would be heaven… Built the Havana 3 by McDonald Jones Homes Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 1040Aug 03, 2011 4:41 pm Hi Kopite.. No real reason given. They have asked for 4 days extension due to rain and wind delay. Everything just seems half finished. Went for a drive past today and they have started bagging and painting now. Gyprock for upstairs was delivered almost 3 weeks ago and is just laying there. Half the roof was tiled over a month ago and so we are still waiting for the other half to be finished. Its really starting to annoy me now. I am just wondering if it is because they have no experience at all at building two storey houses and so ours is a bit of trial and error. Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders.
