If they run over schedule and you are paying rent $45 a day won't cover the rent. We are not paying rent but it gives them more of an incentive to complete the job on time. Plus if you cause them to run over schedule you are liable for a percentage of the cost which is far more than $45 a day. Also check their licenses and insurance, the ones they attached to ours were expired, It's small things like this that can hold everything up with the bank when it comes to getting the commencement letter. Read it every night and wait for at least 12 days before signing it. I knew mine like the back of my hand by the end, the more you read it there is more chance of picking up on anything that is wrong or seems unfair. They will always write the contract in their favor. Ours was about two weeks later, make sure you have done your homework and allowed a big enough allowance to cover the cost of what you want, if you over spend at the appointment you will be given a contract variation, if you have already got approval from the bank you will either have to pay the difference out of your cash or apply to increase your loan amount. Thanks, we got some independent quotes for downlights installation and one is $55 for wiring and supply. After this we will not be doing our downlights with MJ. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13894Aug 27, 2016 9:04 am cwiseman Hi all So we have been in our house for just over a year now and as beautiful as our home is the service and warranty department is woeful! Still have things on our sign off list not done Emails answered and no follow up Promises made and never come through "Waiting on quotes" was the last catch phrase we were told. How is that our problem when their product is faulty !! Have gone to the very top and still nothing done! So beware those getting their keys or doing your final inspection. Don't do what we did and pay the final cheque without all the items complete cause they will just take you for a ride. Warranty and service vehicles left right and centre at all the other Mac jones house around us but not at ours. Very disgruntled and unhappy customer. Wow I know that feeling. It was until I posted stuff on here they started to take thing serious. Bill Mcdonald him self came out. Call the Newcastle office and ask for him. He said any issue to call him. But yes after sales service is ****. Took me 12months to fix garage floor , but I know have door handles falling off, cracking in gyprock corner which they have patched 3 times . I'm over them. Never again Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13896Aug 27, 2016 4:51 pm MrMattBob Josh and Katie hay guys just received our builing contract was just wondering if there is anything out of the ordinary i should know about like any red flags I made them change the late payment to us from $45 a day to $105 a day. So they let you change it? They would not allow us to change the late payments of $45 a day! :/ Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13897Aug 28, 2016 9:27 pm Hi there, I'm looking at building with MDJ but after reading these I can see that they may be a nightmare to deal with, is this true? Has everyone mainly had bad experiences with the company? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13898Aug 28, 2016 9:48 pm scattedd Hi there, I'm looking at building with MDJ but after reading these I can see that they may be a nightmare to deal with, is this true? Has everyone mainly had bad experiences with the company? Hi Scatted, We started our journey over a year ago, we looked at many builderns and alot of reviews and forums but we were sold on the Edenvale design by MDJ. In brief, our sales associate is amazing with keen attention to detail and she is incredibly supportive. When our CLO took over our file things dipped drastically, level of communication was poor, detail was not there and just really sloppy effort, we raised this with her and above her and things have improved greatly. We had our plans lodged with CDC only to find out 4 weeks later drafting got it wrong and we are not eligible and now need to go through Council (another 8-10 weeks) for us it was disappointing and still can't really understand how this was not picked up earlier but we are not time poor with this build so we are just going to move on and not make a fuss. Colour & electrical consultants were amazing extremely knowledgeable and very understanding with changes. In my opinion no matter which builder you go with, do you homework, prepare to be on top of it and don't be afraid to say something if you feel you are not getting the right service. At the end of the day everyone is human there will be mistakes so prepare to have some level of understanding. In summary even with some hiccups we are still happy we chose MDJ and hoping we feel this way when construction gets underway.
