Awesome surprise our kitchen bench tops were now installed. House is progressing nicely still on track for mid September handover if not sooner. Tiler in till next Tuesday with painter in scheduled to start next Tuesday then just need finishing touches with electrical, appliances and flooring. Getting so close now and so exciting! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13714Jul 27, 2016 1:50 pm CathyLeigh Linda_K Hi everyone, our gyprock has started to be installed on Friday and we are beginning to look into flooring & driveway. We were thinking of exposed aggregate but don't know much about it, any one have any pros and cons on exposed aggregate compared to coloured concrete including pricing differences? Hey Linda, We went the exposed aggregate and are really happy with it. I was really nervous about getting it because I have seen some fantastic jobs and some really poor jobs. We ended up finding a guy who specialised in it and had been doing it for over 30 years. Here is our driveway. He did a fantastic job. I was thinking of dark but I might have a look at a lighter one now... Where abouts are you building? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13715Jul 27, 2016 2:03 pm CathyLeigh Dreambuild12 CathyLeigh your driveway looks fabulous. I am also wanting exposed agg in black / grey tones. I love the dark driveways mjh have around their display homes as well ? Thanks Dreambuild12, I think the exposed aggregate driveways are lovely. We tossed it around for ages ..... will we go dark .... will we go light .... will we go dark. I think it was the night before the pour we ended up ringing the concreter and said we have changed our mind and we are going to go with the light driveway. I think he was getting annoyed with us a bit in the end and I don't really blame him because we kept changing our mind. I think we would have been happy either way in the end. If we were going to go the dark it was going to be dark stone with 10% white stone just to lighten it a bit. There are so many different combinations you can go. In the end we went the light driveway because nearly everyone in our street has got dark exposed aggregate driveways so we thought it would be nice to break the street up a bit. Since we went light another one has now popped up in the street. Where are you up to with your build? Hi CathyLeigh I was excavated and plumbing this week and piers next week. Very happy with progress so far. I am slowly purchasing new items for house so it's very exciting at the moment How did you find out all of the aggregate combinations? Did your concretor have samples or was their a webpage to check out? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13716Jul 27, 2016 7:34 pm I have a flooring question, I'm thinking of polished porcelain tiles in the kitchen, entry and living/dining room. I have never had these before and am thinking purely on looks alone and would love some feedback on these tiles Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 13717Jul 27, 2016 9:58 pm Hey Linda, We went the exposed aggregate and are really happy with it. Have you got some photos of your build? We actually have a furniture delivery arriving on Saturday which is pretty exciting. Our concreter took us around to a heap of jobs he had done and told us all the different combinations in them. Our head was in a spin though by the time we got home. He also had some samples at home but was much better seeing the bigger picture. If you go exposed aggregate just make sure you get someone who does it all the time because some concreters are not that great at it and make sure you get addresses of their previous jobs so you can make sure you are happy with the quality of their work. My questions are:Those who also didn't do full height tiling to bathrooms, - could you please let me know if there is any issue with the areas not having tiles? - Do you regret for not doing it? - Have you done it after handover? - Any alternative solution you recommend like Vinyl Wallpaper etc?
