Has been for a week or so now, but it looks like our biggest hold up will be the availability of a brickie. Sounds like we may be delayed slightly while he works on another house before ours A bit frustrating to have it sitting there ready to go /quote] There is a national shortage of bricklayers in Australia - mostly in NSW.. We waited 3 and a half weeks for a brickie but they smashed it on a Saturday & Sunday & finished it on Monday - they were even working on the Sunday which I thought was crazy! Yeah I've heard it's pretty standard at the moment. Not much you can do but wait your turn! Key hand over next week. About six weeks early. Only took a few photos today. They are on the blog. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 12790Nov 26, 2015 10:24 am SimoneandRuss Spronkly SimoneandRuss Hi Everybody, First time posting here. We have bought a block of land in Western Sydney and are waiting for it to register next month. We have paid our deposit with McDonald Jones Homes and had our pre colour appointment and our plan presentation. Our colour appointment is on the 21st December. What I wanted to know, is it too late to make any structural changes?? We are building a Havana One and I have been debating a front study. Being a primary school teacher, I really need a space to store all of my resources. An email from our CLO has said it is too late to add on the study. Would this be correct?? Thanks Simone Hey Simone, Just wondering, have you signed your DV & your ICT. I was under the impression that you could make any changes up until you sign the ICT, thats when they then start charging. Have you spoken with your CLO. Cheers, Mel Building the Manhattan One, Central Coast, NSW Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 12791Nov 26, 2015 12:10 pm Manhattan One Hi Mel, Thanks for your reply. We have signed an original contract when we paid our $3000 deposit and we have signed plans during our Plan Presentation. After our plan presentation we were emailed a one page email to sign off on the costs of the changes we had made eg: extra gas point, 12 solar panels instead of 6, the movement of the water tank, and an extra metre for bedroom 3 & 4. After emailing my CLO about it, I received an email to say we could not make any structural changes. We weren't even given an option of making changes and paying a fee. Our land hasn't registered yet, so it's not like they are ready to start building. My email asked for the price of adding a study and prices for coffered ceilings and we were just told it was too late. Thanks for your help Simone Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 12792Nov 26, 2015 12:53 pm Davidr13 Had the PCI today. We are very happy with the house, no big issues to worry about. Its hard when others can do changes both with and without being charged. Im sure your house will be beautiful Cheers, Mel Building the Manhattan One, Central Coast, NSW Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 12796Nov 26, 2015 3:22 pm Davidr13 Had the PCI today. Hi David Congratulations on reaching PCI so quickly. Your house looks fantastic. I bet you can't wait to get your hands on those keys next week. What a great early Christmas present for you guys. The hard work begins soon, landscaping! We have been going at a snails pace lately. I am sure I could get in there and finish it off quicker myself. We went for a drive up there to take a look last weekend but, unfortunately, were locked out so we couldn't get any real good photos. I had to take them through the windows but I will post them anyway. Hope everyone else's builds are going okay. I think our glass splashback might have went in on Monday. They are going to have to replace our pantry door because it is supposed to have a pull handle and they have drilled a hole straight through it for a normal handle. Gyprock finished in 9 weeks, that is awesome for you guys. I know what you are saying, it is very exciting building a new home. I am probably more excited than my partner though, he is just looking around looking at all the landscaping he has to do. I will be helping too of course. Our darker kitchen cupboards are 2 pack gloss coloured matched to Formica Storm. Look forward to seeing more photos of your build. Hi Cathy Your home is starting to look great. Slowly slowly it is getting there. It will all be worth while in the end. I know what you mean about driving two hours to see the house, and you can not get inside. I suppose that is a good thing..keeps unwanted people out. You will never guess what some one stole from our house about two weeks ago. The cover for the air con pipes, that are out side and go to the a/c unit. The ss supervisor and I were amazed that some one would bother to steal it. MJH will replace it this week. One little surprise that I had at PCI. The SS told me it was time to arrange house insurance, and I should not wait until hand over. I was waiting for hand over, but he said to be safe, do it now, as the house was finished, and all that is left to do is paper work. I was surprised that all appliances and water heater were installed and working. I thought that would wait until I had the keys. Now the real hard work starts. The long wait is over, now the work on the outside. I am meeting the concreter for the driveway, on hand over day, and he is going to start right away. The the digging starts, garden beds.etc etc Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders.
