As for retaining walls it is also dependent on the type of block that you use, the ones I am using require Engineered Design over 1.2. I have had a lot of quotes and to be honest is a joke, by doing it ourselves we are saving about 25K on labour. I would say ours are pretty good standard DIY. Every home we have owned has had retaining walls, some were over 2m height. These are max 700 high with caps but its the length of the walls some are 30m long that is taking up the time. I finished another wall today, a small one, max 4 blocks high going down to 2 high. The key to good walls is the footings and good drainage. I will try and post some more pics, as for stairs they are a right PIA having never done them before, they will do but I am not happy with them. Cwiseman - yay racing to the finish line! Keep the pics flying everyone! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 11273Jun 15, 2015 6:54 pm cwiseman So a bit of news today- just spoke to SS and PCI booked for June 30th so should be in by mid July! For those curious if you ever get in early the answer is yes- we will be if all goes to plan about 7 weeks early than the end of construction- just waiting on the clarification of a few things missing that will be rectified I'm sure ! Just waiting on the last progress payment request to arrive now!!! Hi cwiseman Wow 7 weeks ahead. We are meant to have our PCI on Thursday morning . 3 weeks late. And we didn't even have any delay days . No flooring or any extra work done. And we still need painting , cornice in bathrooms , skirting in main robe, door hardware, bathroom hardware , A/C . And redo our garage floor. I can't wait Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 11274Jun 15, 2015 6:54 pm cwiseman So a bit of news today- just spoke to SS and PCI booked for June 30th so should be in by mid July! Jo Building 'The Havana Executive' on 1200sqm Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 11277Jun 15, 2015 9:00 pm cwiseman We are hoping to Cathy but again due to height restriction we have to submit drawings to council so unfortunately it's not just the bricks and mortar! Can I ask if you know how high before you need to submit to council? we are looking at probably a metre right now (on one side) but next door haven't started building yet and once they cut it will definitely be more.... father in law is a brick layer and says he will get us the blocks and labour hopefully that will save us a fair bit. I think I would rather not think about retaining walls if they are expensive ..I just want some bricks and a roof hahah Building the Garden Retreat One with MacDonald Jones http://buildingthegardenretreat.blogspot.com.au/ Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 11278Jun 15, 2015 9:03 pm Colorbond looks so neat, I love it !
